Michael Moore's new book is out (stupid white men), and it's doing incredibly well. It's on all the bestsellers lists, was #1 on Amazon, etc. Hard to believe a lefty could have a bestseller when we're told that Shrub has 80 percent approval.

Anyway, the book is great. It's very funny and provocative. Liberals and Democrats alike will enjoy this book, if you are into politics and political humor like Bill Maher, Michael Medved, etc.

You won't agree with everything he says (even I didn't!), but the book is a fun read. I know, I know, I can hear some of you grumbling already with the "why should we listen to Mike, he helped Ralph elect the anti-christ!" whining. Well, MM addresses the flaws of the Nader-blamers arguments far better than I ever could. So check it out, and let me know what you think. If you don't want to buy it, go to the bookstore and read chapter 10, called "Democrats DOA."

Just ordered it this morning from amazon. Could have bought it locally, but didn't want to deny the gummint the privilege of adding that to my "file." Can't wait to read it. Maybe a good book for the BBC?

I saw him promoting it on The Daily Show. He was good and everything, and I agreed with everything he said on that particular show, but I still get this blood pressure thing when hearing his name. I might read the book at Border's but I won't give him a dime. I said I'd never forgive Nader..not as sure about Moore, but it's way too soon. Maybe if they don't help Bush get re-elected..

Glad to see MM's new book is out. I'll be looking for it. He's a little off on his own tangent at times but generally pointed in the right direction.
Are people really still whining about "stealing" Gore's election? Democrats should face the harsh reality that Their party nominated a stiff as far as the campaign went. Further, I voted for Nader because I really didn't feel Gore would be a successful president and could futher damage truly a truly progressive movement. i also felt that Bush would eventually prove himself and his party to be what they are.

9/11 makes anyone in that position a hero. There was no predicting that. Nader was my sincere protest against Republicrats in general

I hear ya, Optm, and agree with you. Bush does suck, but the Democrats needed a wake-up call. Clinton was the greatest Republican president of our generation. Welfare reform, an obscene drug war, NAFTA, the widening of the gap, on and on, with Democrats like Clinton/Gore, who needs Republicans? Hopefully they'll hear us, but who knows?

As far as MM's book, it's not only out, but it's kicking some HUGE ass! It's nearing it's 20th printing already, is #1 all over the place, and the reviews are mostly glowing.

Moore can be abrasive certainly, but the left NEEDS some people like that who will get up out their armchairs and speak out against the crimes of the establishment. If his books helps fight complacency, then it was well worth it. The fact that it's funny as hell is just a bonus!

That, I'd have to agree with. I've often said that I only voted for a Republican once, but three times if you count Clinton. The Nader voters have the wrong, wrong end of it, if they think Clinton was the fault of the Democratic party as a whole. The country has a lot deeper problems than just giving a party a wake-up call. Things like Michael Moore's book might be helpful, but if he's going to continue to help Republicans get elected..or in Bush's case, gain office anyway, he might as well just give it up. The reason we had Clinton instead of someone like Tom Harkin, or some of the other candidates that were running for the nomination in '92 is Clinton is the kind of person people vote for. So was Reagan, so, I guess, is Bush, although to a lesser extent, since he didn't actually win exactly. Do something about that, and you'll have done something useful. Help people to understand that "liberal" is not a dirty word and you won't have things like the Welfare Reform Act. Any more wake-up calls like the one Nader and Moore helped to deliver to the Democrats and we'll just have outright feudalism pretty soon. You don't go forward by going backwards in a country as big and complicated as this one. And maybe you can't predict something like 9-11, but people as old and experienced as Nader and Moore should know that stuff happens and once someone is in office, anything can and often does happen.

And if you really don't think there's a difference in the two parties, go back and take another look at the Nixon transcripts. That's the party that's in power now, and that's what they're still about.

Pat, I hear ya. Believe me, watching some of Bush's moronics have made me feel waves of guilt on occasion. I understand your position much better now than I did last year, though I wouldn't change my vote. But I am supporting a Dem here in MN this fall, even though there is a Green candidate. Sen. Paul Wellstone is up for fight of his life against a Bush-picked asswipe named Norm Coleman. Polls have them in a dead-heat right now. I'll be contributing time and money to this Dem, because he's the real deal. I'm going to work on my Green cohorts to get them to support this guy as well. We can work together.

Also, I'm reading Nader's new book now. "Crashing The Party-How to Run for President and still Tell the Truth". Since you probably won't be running out to buy that one, I'll let you know how it is.

No, no books by Nader ever again, and probably not Moore's either, even though I'd kind of like to read it. I really did like him. But I won't put a dime in his pocket now.
