Just some thoughts and observations, including twisted definitions, on the use (or misuse) of the English language during the first part of the war:

ATTRIT - When did the noun "attrition" get its own verb form? Anyway, this word means we're kicking the shit out of them, but a lot slower than we'd like.

SHOCK AND AWE - The American people's reaction to the realization that the war is not a video game, and will last more than a few hours.

REPUBLICAN GUARD - Donald Rumsfeld, Ari Fleischer, Vicki Clarke, etc., etc., (you get the idea? Any talking head that spares George W. the agony of dealing with the Washington Press Corps and spares the party the humiliation if he were to speak to them.

SANDSTORM--This used to be called "news blackout." They don't want you to see what's going on and/or realize they don't know what's going on.

CAMOUFLAGE - The red, white and blue bunting often found wrapped around neoconservative pundits and politicians, giving the impression they are patriots (Random House Dictionary: a person who loves, supports and defends his or her country), while hiding their true Chauvinism (Random House Dictionary: 1. zealous and aggressive patriotism, 2. biased devotion to any group, attitude or cause).

There is a difference. I am not ashamed to be a patriot. I do not want to become a chauvinist, believing in "my country right or wrong".

TERRORIST - someone who could possibly be suspected to be able to think anything else than the president

CIVILIAN - disguised soldier

MAKING BIG PROGRESS - spending an enormous amount of ammunition and weapons for what the hell..

FRIENDLY FIRE - something very unfriendly that would never happen if the damn enemy would't make us such nervous...

TRUTH - something to lose your job the next day when you tell it...

ISLAMISTS - a bunch of replacements for Osama Bin Laden... always prepared to take resposibility...

OIL - abbreviation; stands for "Our Infinite Liberty"... so always remind that if someone tells you "It's all about OIL !"

One of my favorites that was heard from the right in the days leading up to the invasion:
Ending the Gulf War - calling a new war the end of a 12 year old war. Priceless.

EMBEDDED--What Cheney is with Halliburton.

I think I saw this on the Daily Show - Operation Iraqi Freedom was going to be called Operation Iraqi Liberation until the administration realized the initials spelled OIL.
