I remember hearing Neil doing a cover of 'Blowing in the Wind' and how much it sucked!!! Turn the wheel around time. Been dying to hear a cover of 'sister morphine' by somebody besides 'The Cowboy Junkies'. Heard it in a soundtrack the other nite. I believe it was New Riders???? Not sure.

*Seems Johnny Cash should fit. With all the tributes about his life, I'm surprized didn't see more musical tributes. (Unless I missed them, then that's easy to figure out)

RB, that is a great song! Tonights the Night and On the Beach are Neil's two best records. Raw, emotional, uncommercial. They say the best art comes from pain. If that's the case, that period must have been a rough one for Neil. Luckily for us, he was rolling the tape through those years.
"On The Beach" has just been re-released and remastered on CD. If you like Neil, and haven't heard this, you're missing out. And its a cheap price. Read all about it!

"Tonight's the Night" and "On the Beach" are classics that first clinched my love for the raw,honest,gutsy songwriting skills of Neil back when I was a teen.I've been a huge fan since.
I still have the original LP of "Tonight" I bought way back when.I used to listen to "On the Beach" in my old Chevy on 8-track.Remember those? Ahhh...memories...

Icj: Yes I always loved the artwork for 'On the Beach'. That buried yellow caddalac in the sand. Vampire blues got me thru my redwing period. If ya know what I mean?

I've always read rolling stone (guess I was born with one in my mail-box) and around the early 70's they had Posted a bit about the 5 most depressing albums of the yr. I can remember 2 of them. (the rest of sequence I remember like yesterday. My sister and I were sitting out on the deck checking out the early morning sun drinking coffee, chatting bout Neil)

Anyhow Neil's "Tonights the Night" was #1. (me furious as that was my favorite L.P. for the moment. HUGE Bruce Berry Fan)

BUT. I do remember my sister Emily suggesting that Arlo didn't make the list. & me asking her What??? And she stated 'Washington Co.' should of been there.

Of course I had this bad habit, of playing 'If You Would Just Drop By' over & over. Like 5 X's in a row. I tried to get her to listen to side one, but she stagnated to that one song. In retrospect, she must of liked it somewhat, or she wouldn't of listened at all???? long story short.
