In the July 21/28 issue of The Nation, the cover story was called "American Rebels." The picture on the cover was part of an American flag, with faces instead of stars, and right about in the center is a smiling, young Woody Guthrie. In Jack Newfields introduction he says the following essays will appear in book form later this year. "The subjects of the essays include rebels in politics, education, journalism, religion, liturature, film, sports, music, law, popular culture and social struggle. They are rebels against conformity, commercialism, racism, oligarchy, conventional wisdom, stacked decks and sacred cows." The aricle on Woody Guthrie is written by Steve Earle, under the heading "He succeded not by toeing the line but by trusting his talent and vision." Other essays are about Walt Whitman, I.F. Stone, Bella Abzug, Miles Davis, Margaret Sanger, Benjamin Mays, Dorathy Day, Bob Moses, and Paul Wellstone.

I have been meaning to mention this article for half a year now, which says something about me, and time, and intentions. If someone else mentioned it in a more timely fashion, I missed it, and I am sorry.
