I lived near Kansas City for a while in the late 60's, and could never figure out how Truman came out of that area. It's a hotbed of conservatism, going back to it being a border slave state.

Of course, I can't quite figure out why conservatives don't want government meddling in their affairs except when we're talking about the bedroom!
