We just returned. There wasn't an empty seat in the theater. The most applause I've heard at a movie in a long time. I took my kids (at least the ones that live with me), and urge everyone to see it.

I saw it once with Dad & his wife yesterday, and once today. I second what goofus said. There are powerfully emotional parts, and very funny parts. This is a very Republican County - my dad tends to vote Republican, but people love it. It is an amazing film.

What Goofus and Star said, and thanks, Levi! We went this afternoon. Seeing this movie should be required, if I thought anything should be required. (I don't.) But I DO wish I could persuade everyone I know to see it.

You *know* it must be good, if such lengths are being taken to intimidate - there are anecdotal stories of armed police playing "ticket taker" in Atlanta, Georgia; armed police present at theatres in Columbus, Ohio, "Just in case the audience starts yelling at the screen," kids in Pinellas County sent away from a theatre for the crime of handing out "Get out the Vote" information. This all seems supportive of the security that was on hand at our local theatre because (they said), "People in Washington were trying to keep moviegoers from getting into the theatre."

A 49 year old mother of 3 from Chester, Pennsylvania, Lonnie Franks, was asking people leaving the movie whether they were registered to vote - if no, she told them she had a voter registration form that they could have. The manager came over and told her that she could not do that (although she was handing out only the forms, no campaign literature.) As she stepped outside, she was greeted by "a number of state police," who told her that she needed to leave.

When she asked if it was public property she was told by the police (probably incorrectly) "yes." When she asked if she wasn't allowed to hand out a government form on public property, they arrested her and brought her into the station.

It's good to know that Atlanta, Columbus and Chester have such low crime rates that the police can devote themselves to being ushers, I guess.

I still haven't seen the movie!
... not for lack of trying, though.

I tried on Sunday, and it was sold out on two screens. I was going to go right after work on Monday, but they changed the time of the showing... just missed a 4:15 show, and didn't want to hang around for a 6:50 show... so I now have it in my plans for MONDAY... (I'll be at the Church for all three Arlo shows this weekend, and Monday will be my next chance to see it.)

and I love the ending! The only thing better would have been bushie doin' the porky pig line! (th th th that's all folksss!)

Just got back from it. Not totally full, but only the really bad, way up front seats were empty and it was on two screens and playing in most area theaters, AND Spidey was next door, so I thought that was pretty good. Applause at the end, too. My daughter was the only one of our group who's not terribly politically engaged and she wants to move to Canada now.

Mike & I just saw it. Even though we were in a bastion of Neo-cons, there was applause at the end!

Would like to see it in a liberal area. I hear the crowd cheers throughout the film.

we just got back. i'm with you, ceashel, i think everyone should definitely see it! this is the first weekend it was playing in binghamton. the theater was full in the middle of the afternoon on a beautiful day...gives me hope.

Just got home from a packed theater... Fahrenheit was playing on two screens at the mall - the 1:50 show was sold out, so I got into the 2:50 show, which also sold out. The movie is also playing at another theater just a little ways downtown. (Still selling out multiple theaters in my area, a week and a half after opening, and Spiderman is playing on half a dozen screens at the mall, too!)

I have to admit I laughed out loud at parts, cried at others. I truly feel for Lila Lipscomb, the mother of the soldier from Flint, who went to Washington. We all have so much to learn from one another.

And the soundtrack! What great choices for songs! (We've gotta get out of this place, for the Bin Laden family....)

It's been said here before... everyone should see this movie. It's one that I'll be buying as soon as it's available on DVD... and I'm NOT a movie collector!

Does anyone remember the scene where there were Iraqi's, mostly kids, in the hospital, all burned up?

I could swear I heard that they were injured by napalm, but no one else seems to remember that. (I can't imagine that I "read" napalm into the movie on my own?)

Does anyone else remember that, and Moore talking about napalmed Iraqi's?

(Also, the woman I talked about before, being arrested for handing out Voter Registration forms, was Lani Frank, not Lonnie Franks. The Star regrets the error.)

Yes, Star... they did talk about napalm... which is really upsetting to me. I'd already been upset by the use of depleted uranium, but I wasn't aware that napalm was being used. They showed the images of women and children with severe burns... the one little kid made me cry... and then they cut to an interview with a soldier who was disturbed by the use of napalm, so it seems to me that it is true. (I have a tendency to be a little skeptical about such allegations, until I've seen corroboration - which is why I was so upset about going into Iraq in the first place. I wanted to let the UN inspectors verify whether there were WMDs, and we know now, what they would have found.)

Thanks, Wyld. I thought that was what I heard, and no one (and I asked *lots* of people) remembered it.

I've looked it up (not googled, precisely, but searched) since. Apparently this was first reported toward the start of the war, by an embedded journalist from Australia. At the end of her article, they added a Pentagon statement saying that we don't need no stinkin' napalm, that we haven't used it in eons, and that the last stocks were destroyed in 2001.

Article after article go to say there was napalm (or something like it.) Then finally, the Pentagon cops to having a new Weapon of Mass Destruction, called the Mark 77 firebomb (I think that was it). It isn't napalm, of course, because we destroyed this. And, napalm is the sticky stuff plus petroleum to burn, and the new and improved WMD is the sticky stuff plus kerosene.

And the troops call it... napalm. Burn motherf*cker, burn.
