Maybe it's because I'm a newbie here and haven't stuck one of my size fourteens in my mouth enough times to tick someone off yet, but I have to say that you folks are really cool! Some of the nicest folks I've had the pleasure to encounter on the "net", really. Not to sound like an old coot, but I think that, somewhere between the 70's and now, some people just lost "something". It sometimes seems to me that people, in general, have gotten a little meaner, a lot more reactionary, a lot less considerate & tolerant, and less kind. You folks are like an oasis in a desert.

Hey Zap!

Thanks for putting into words something that I've felt (and probably quite a few others here have felt too).

I've tried to explain my affinity to the people here, and my best attempt would be to say that most of us are hippies, who grew up, but didn't lose our values (moral or otherwise) along the way.

I love you people!!!

I've got to admit I have felt a lot better about many things since I have been hanging out on the bench! It did seem to me that as time drifted into the Reagan years that I had lost the ability to imagine a new world that had lived in my head created by some "hippie" childhood I had lived through! A world fueled by Arlo and Dylan and Woody and so many others. When I needed it, I stumbled onto you guys and I appreciate you letting me vent somewhere without making me feel like a stranger in a strange land (something I have grown used to in the world I live in now!) So, without getting to mushy, Thanks as Well!

Oh Ya! Zap I checked out the Country Joe Site! it was funny cause i was listenin to Feel like Im Fixin to Die CD I had just picked up when I saw your post. Great site, I'm glad the Fish are reuniting and I hope to see them sometime!

Yea Captain know what you mean.Its hard being a square peg in a round hole sometimes. I used to say to my daughter and husband...(who GET me) "I wish I could find a big group of people who GET what I'm talking about wthout looking at me strange", and thanks to Arlo I found the Group W. (that's W. NOT Dubya) Bench and immediately felt at home.
I describe it as a group of GENUINE old Hippies that never sold out, pacifists, some who have infiltrated the establishment and are trying to change things from the inside out, and others who protest in their own special ways. My latest quest is to introduce younger people to Arlo and Alices and Woody and tell then that they need to take note of what is happening around them and how people in Woody's time in the 30's/40's and Arlo's time in the 60's/70's
fought hard for change and how they should be very concerned about things slipping back to the DARK AGES.

I've been here since 1998 & have had alot of fun enjoying the site. I just wish I'd had a puter in 1995, 96 & 97 so I could've enjoyed it then too...

I was thinking about that reunion thing! It has been on my mind for some time about the greatest of all possible reunions. The ultimate, the one I would travel across the country to see! maybe I'm wrong but I think it would have mass appeal!

Two of the greatest names in the history of Folk music reunited for our listening pleasure! At least two of the most unusual names in Folk music, Arlo Guthrie and Ry Cooder, together again! Someone tell me I'm wrong here!

We've had issues in the past, but not for a long time. Things were probably going too well in the world. Now we've got real problems and real fights to fight.

Hi Zap: Yes, if there ever was a place like Oz, or a lil town called Mayberry, this just might very well be the place. Cept the sherriff is a Folk-singer, and the moderators are hockey players n such. You get my drift?

Speakin' for myself, Mr. Brown, I was thinkin' more along the lines of a Cicely, Alaska. Guess that's the beauty of this fair little community. It can be whatever you want it to be! Hope everyone has had and continues to have a good holiday season.

We could definitely fit right in in Cicely, Alaska. When we finally get to Mooseland I hope it's just a tiny bit warmer than that. Ottawa is starting to look good to me, though and I guess that's pretty nippy, too.
