Hey all. I just got back from a bout with the 'flu. Was too sick to do much but read stuff since last Saturday. How's everyone liking the Gannon/Guckert thing?

Hi Pat!!! Glad you're feeling better. I simply can't believe that shit. They are now getting away with paying off the media to spread their disinformation. It's just beyond belief.

How does a person with no credentials and a fake identity get within feet of the Prez, unless of course a high level person knew about it, which is even more disturbing.

Where's the outrage in the media? Yeah, some "liberal" media we got. What a joke that is.

I was going to post on this under the Republican Power-grab file, but you beat me to it.

Glad you're feeling better, Pat!

On subject...I'm disgusted, but sadly, not shocked or surprised. It just seems to be an offshoot of FOX news...our own administration run news station.

lcj...yeah, liberal media, indeed. Makes me want to scream everytime I hear those words.

I think this may deserve its own thread. Never in my life has the media been so thoroughly in bed...maybe literally...with an administration. The fake townhall meetings that Bush does are bad enough, pay-for-praise by pundits is clearly anti-American and having a gay hooker pretending to be a reporter so he can lob softballs at press conferences is galling. Have the same hooker be privy to classified documents is treasonous. But all of that pales compared to the mainstream press wanting to give the whole thing a pass.

If they impeached Clinton they ought to be calling to have this whole bunch indicted for high crimes and misdemeanors and no one but bloggers are breaking a story. I'm just so pissed at the utter and complete loss of everything that made this country what it used to be. If there is a hell, surely Bush, Rove, Rumsfeld and all the rest will be spending eternity there.

Hope everyone had a great day.

Yeah, we're definitely screwed. I knew things would be bad when he got selected the first time, but it seems that after 9/11, the media and a little over half the country (judging by the last election) seem inclined to just let this administration do whatever they want to do and get away with it, no matter how immoral or unethical or downright illegal.

When I try to talk to people at work about what's happening, I see their eyes glaze over. The truth, at least with people around me, is they don't pay attention to what's going on, they don't see where their own little lives are affected, so they don't care. Unless the mainstream media starts to hammer this administration to the point where those people who get their news in 5 second sound bites even have to notice, or their lives become "directly" affected, I don't see the awareness changing.

That's why I'm not surprised when I read the latest thing this administration has pulled. Nothing they do surprises me, at this point, and the fact that they get away with it doesn't surprise me either.

Same here, Deb, getting the glazed and/or rolling eyes at work--you'd think I was talking about Arlo or something. I'm not surprised either, but I can't help but think, surely this one will take it over the top; this latest scandal in the larger blatant negation of our right to a free press will spark enough outrage, will embarass mainstream journalists enough that they'll truly investigate and report it, will move the Dems to protest and keep protesting (Mr. Dean? front and center! It's time to yell and throw your arms around!). Probably not, though. BushTeflon seems to be impervious to just about anything--but wait--maybe not! Is it a coincidence, or was Alice's Restaurant Multicolored Rainbow Roach Affair released just now for a reason? Could it be the one weapon that can make something stick to BushTeflon? Hmmm....

I am about to admit that I am one of those who Deb refers to... the 5-second sound-byte people. Lately all I want to do is sleep, and with my coursework and sleep, there's very little time left for news.

What I'm hearing here is very scary and hopefully this weekend I'll be able to spend some time doing some research to find out what it is this time that's gotten everyone's back up.

But first, I have to get ready for Senior Comps and several exams next week. I hate this semester!

pat, you've put it so well!

But what have the Democrats done or even yelled about any of this? I'm beginning to agree with Michael Moore that the Dems have no....no...backbone. I've been saying that they're just not bastardly enough.

Tom Delay had 2 men doing 24/7 research on Clinton. What did they come up with? Whitewater and travelgate? OK, so there were a few women.

No one died when Clinton lied!

The elite, Neo-Con media makes me crazy.

Maybe I should have an opinion??

An uninformed, frightened Christian, who likes W.,told me the other day that "Clinton telling(?) teenagers that oral sex is OK is worse than anything W. has done." You just can't get through to some people but I guess they feel the same about people like me.?
They start figeting and get up and walk away.. I think it must be much more frightening to be uninformed and scared than informed and scared? I know which I prefer to be. How about you? Of course I already know how most of you will answer! Preaching to the converted again!

You people simply MUST rent and watch the movie called "OutFoxed: Rupert Murdoch's war on Journalism".

You will be simply astonished at how they are now manipulating the media and killing journalism in favor of right wing propaganda.

You know, I used to chide activist friends who would called the right-wingers "fascists", but they were really on to something. When they are going after total control of media, religion, corporate power, and the bench, and looking more like a police state every day, you really do have to look at the definition of the word fascist. It's compelling.

But seriously, rent that movie and get as many people as you can to watch it. It's really jaw-dropping.
