I was in the Air Force stationed at Pease AFB, NH when I heard the news that evening. Needless to say, SAC didn't scramble the B-52's as a result of it; in fact, I can remember that quite a few of my fellow officers were of the "good riddance" mindset. Part of the reason I got out of the service five months later.

I was eating a Big Mac watching the Brady Bunch when the news came across the screen!

It is strange what you remember!

Well, it may not have been the Brady Bunch but it was a show of similar Social and Political Value!
