UNBELEVABLE: grass as a medicine? Yes it's been used for thousands of yrs. for medicinal purposes. To my knowledge no ones's died from it. ( unlike the new wave pharmaceuticals that have spawned in the last 7ral decades )

* e.p. Clamidodine (sp.ck.) A tranquilizer that caused birth defects. ( when I was In Vetro, a Dr. prescribed it for my Mom... For some reason, she never filled the script... Valium (Librium) was cheaper)(thank God)

* e.p. they are now finding out that Viagra can cause blindness...(to think we were told masterbation could lead to this)

Then you watch a commecial about new drugs on the market. Even announcing the side effects, such as nausea, liver damage, and anal leakage) WHEW!!!

There are SO many drugs that are dervived from plants... e.p. Digatalis (heart med) e.p. Ritalin, all natural helping millions of Kids and Adults alike for ADHD...

The poppy plant, which most Narcotics are derived... Releaving patients from chronic pain, and depression....

YES, grass has allot of side effects. e.p. memory loss, wieght gain, lung damage...

So where do we draw the line???? Pot has no effect on myself. If in pain, Pot seems to intensify it....BUT, it does help with my depression, and keeps my stomach in check....ntm: I sleep like a baby. (for someone with insomnia this is a Godsend)

Even tho' I'm probably the only person in my age group who never tried marijuana & would usually not be interested in this thread, I gotta tell ya, rb, that you brought a smile to my face.

I think of the commercial for the drug---forgetting the name of it right now & too lazy to look it up---that relieves society anxiety. The side effects are sweating, shaking, & diarrhea.

So now you can go to a party & approach that member of the opposite sex without being nervous---cept you'll be shaky & sweaty, & just as you get to know her, you may have to run!

Well, "The Supremes", as in court, have determined that, even if the states make Med-Maryjane legal, users can still be subject to arrest and persecution...er..prosecution for violating federal law! What a bunch of Richards!

And here, in good ol' Connecticut, the "Land of Steady Habits", our amazingly progressive governor, Ms. Jodi Rell, and the state legislature, are thinkin' of making Med-MJ legal!

I have to admit, Gov. Rell is surprising the doo-dah out of me. She wasn't "elected". She was Lt. Gov. when our corrupt Gov. Roland resigned to go to prison and so "inherited" the office. And to top it all off, she's a Republican! So far, she's advocating stem cell research in Connecticut, voted for legalizing same sex civil unions (going into law soon!) and now the Med-MJ thingy! Why can't more Republicans be like her? Hell, why can't more Democrats be like her as well?

• Majority: John Paul Stevens, who had prostate cancer, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who was treated for colon cancer, voted that state laws do not protect people who smoke marijuana on doctors' orders from a federal ban on the drug.
• Dissent: Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist, who is fighting thyroid cancer, joined a dissent written by Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, who has had breast cancer, that said that states should be allowed to set their own policies for marijuana use.


Where it matters
The 10 states that allow patients to use marijuana: Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Vermont and Washington

If you check out the Statistics from the American Cancer Society you'll find that, over a lifetime, men have a 1:2 chance of having cancer of one kind or another, and women have a 1:3 chance... so of nine justices, four have had cancer. I think this is within the 'norm' even though the gender distribution is a little off.

We have a shop up in the mouintains (hills compared to say....Colorado or Canada)not far from me called Country Hemp. They have all kinds of stuff there made from Hemp.I buy clothes from there and Virgin Hemp Seed Oil.It is rubbed into the skin for moisturiser and contains the good Omega oils, vitamins ,Calcium, Manganese,Zinc, Chlorophyll and other minerals and stuff which are absorbed into the skin. Good for circulation, LDL and Low Blood Pressure. I just use it 'cos it's a great moisturizer. Of course there are several types of Cannabis sativa, The Evil Weed and the Innocent Industrial Hemp. But I'm sure you all know the difference cos one of them gives you a bad headache if you try smoking it. Of coure I wouldn't know anything about THAT! Can't help passive smoke at Frank Zappa or Neil Young concerts!

Next time I'm down in Tassie I'll have to get some of those Doggie Treats for my Critters.
