He was a most familiar face on TV news, but more than that, he was a blunderite, or at least a fan.

So sorry to hear about him. I think Arlo was on a Peter Jennings show once. I think it was a New Yrs Eve thing from the church. I remember seeing it. Looks like Cronkite is outliving them all, Huntley & Brinkley & now Jennings. May God be with the family at this time. Yes, and Arlo joined him at Mt. Vernon another time. I thought he tried to bring us more truth than has been in most national news in the last few years, even if only in what he left unsaid, sometimes.

Jennings was my favorite news guy and not just because of the Arlo connection.

I thought he was easily the most talented on-air man. Fair and balanced (for real, not just a ludicrous slogan like for that Republican infomercial Fox). He was calm under stress, personable, and human. But above all, dead serious about the news and his job. Not much fluff on his watch.

What constitutes news on TV these days is pretty much a joke. These days news is entertainment, puppy dogs stories, parenting and baby worship, and celebrity plugging.
My idea of news would be an very dry old man (like a chomsky) sitting at a plain wooden table with a glass of water and some papers, a plain uncovered light bulb hanging from the ceiling, giving in depth analysis of history and politics. No fucking sports, weather, traffic, or any of that other bullshit that people nowadays think is news.

Pete wasn't that guy of course, but he did take his duties very seriously and yet seemed the kind of guy you could hang with. Oh yeah, and he was a Dead-head. I remember seeing pictures of him at Dead shows with his teenage son.

I've been missing his news reports for months... he truly was among the best of the best newsmen on television.

Me Too !! I think his family and friends were very lucky to have and know him and the American public was served well by Peter Jennings may he RIP
