Does anyone remember this? Did you go? Do you have stories about it?

Back when Arlo was on his first Web site, and was raising funds to buy the church, he organized a couple of trips down the Mississippi on a steamboat, the Delta Queen, I think. It was for several days, and the folksinger himself was on the boat, and mingled and everything!

We really wanted to go, but it wasn't in the stars (a.k.a. pocketbook). We saw pix on the Web site after the trips, and it had to be way cool.

I'd like to encourage a revival of this idea. (It could be, but wouldn't have to be, on a steamboat down the Mississippi.)

If three people--THREE PEOPLE A DAY--would join me, we'd have the Arlo Trips Movement. Maybe if we said it with feeling, he would consider doing something like that again. Ya think?

I remember the trip but it cost way more than I could afford. So we didn't get to go. Now if he'll offer it for $100 a person, then we might be able to swing that.

Not exactly what I had in mind. But your $100 could get you a patron ticket to the concert in St. Louis. It includes an after-concert party.

this being november..around here we'll be seeing arlo and company so many times, the whole month is an arlo trip..

Sherry was on that trip. But then Sherry's whole life has been an Arlo trip, or because of Arlo trips. She's slowed down a little lately, and has taken up herding cats (real ones) and takes as many Sarah and Johnny trips as Arlo trips these days. She's out of town now (she brings some cats with her now) or she'd be answering this. Jamie H. Davis and some other people we know were on that one, too. I know Sherry and Judy and Deb Smith were all on the Europe trip. Don't know if Judy was on the Delta Queen, though. Were you, Judy?

Oh..the point..right..well, personally, I doubt that my family stars or pocketbook could do a trip now all that much easier than then, but it's entirely possible Arlo might consider doing another trip sometime if the right opportunity arose. But if you get a movement going and want him to hear you, post on the Arlo's Restaurant forum. He's much more likely to see it there.

Thanks, Pat, for the information. Although I've been a blunderite since the late '60s--even when we didn't know what we were--I've been kind of "in a cave" for several years, and I am new to arlonet.

My pocketbook may not be ready, but I may force it to be--I am more than ready to spend some time with other blunderites. Finding this site has helped sooooooo much. Literally, my husband is the only person with whom I communicate (besides ya'll) except on a very superficial (work) level. And most of them are ultra conservative. Ultra, ultra.

Anyway, it's looking like travel will be more of a possibility than it's been, and if a trip materializes, great! If not, at least I'm hoping we can get to the church next year.

Seems like there were a few of those trips years ago, and probably about time to revive the concept. Unfortunately, it looks like Delta Queen has filed Chapter 11 so maybe it's not the best time for that. Don't know if the Clearwater would be a good option, but Ellis Paul and Don C are doing a cruise that I think is similar...
anywho, I'm always ready for a good boat trip...

Yeah..it's easier here in the Northeast. Easier to get to shows where there are lots of blunderites. Stew's in Texas, though. That's a start. Then there's Sherry, who herds cats in Louisiana a lot of the time. She might show up anywhere. If you hang around here you'll hook up with other blunderites in person before too long.

i remember that trip (the one on the delta queen), but at the time didn't know about (or at the very most, had little to no understanding of) a website, or the internet, i mean, occasionally arlo would mention something about online stuff in his newsletter which was all very mysterious ... i knew it had something to do with computers, and apparently stashed the info somewhere in back of my mind, until i actually found out about what the internet was and then the info played back in my mind (or is that forward...?) and it began to make sense...
...but did you say "[arlo's] first website"? ...which one was that?
...actually, that's not what i started to say...yeah, i remember that trip...i read about it in the rbr and bhak was calling me saying i should go, and i'm like, well, yeah...so why don't you send me one of those cheap souvenir post cards from the boat (i was really surprised when i got one in the mail!)... it had been signed by a few folks including judy b...and as far as cheap souvenir post cards go (a very distinguished class) it was true to form (it was perfect i must say) ...i also think i have a picture around here somewhere of bhak and sherry wearing dresses, gliding down the stairway (almost like an optical illusion)... (they were hamming it up ya know, which is hard to imagine i'm sure...)

Unless my blundery memory is playing me trick again, there was a Web site. I did get the rbr on paper, but I think there was an earlier Web site, too. If so and I haven't gone over the edge, it was pretty rudimentary, as were all the sites. But maybe it was just the rbr on paper.

It was always this website. I think there were boards and maybe a chatroom on Prodigy. Deb could tell you about that. And then, of course there are still AOL boards. But as far as websites go it was always ArloNet, starting in '95, although the address was different. Dave didn't register arlo.net as a domain for a while so it was a long, long address.

i wonder if you're thinking about the early message boards on prodigy, ceashel. arlo mentioned them in the rbr, and it's where i first met "online blunderites". laura lee, our resident author, found the beginnings of arlonet on the web and sent us all the url. arlo used to post on the prodigy boards, too...and i think all that is when dave and arlo actually started writing to each other and expanding arlonet into what it is now.

I thought this & those old Prodigy boards were the only sites of his. It msut've been something that was out before I got online in Apr 1998. I remember Arlo telling all about ARLONET & me wanting ot get it so abd & not being able to afford a puter. Fortunately in Apr 98 oour local library got the internet & I found out about it that month & went in there to egt it. Then fall 98 my mom got a new WIN 98 puter & gave me her old 486. The I bought a 486 laptop so I could get online on vacation & Arlo trips etc. The I won this WIN 98 puter in what 1999 or 2000. So thanks to Arlo I am on the internet. It's all Arlos fault LOL!! it's been fun being on here. ARLONET was the very first website I ever went to on the iunternet. In fact at one time that was the only website I'd ever heard of LOL!

Nah, it's windowpane.

Larry, point taken--if we planned something for him to do, sure, that would be rude. If we were to tell him there's a certain amount of interest in something, then he could act on that or not.

But it's probably not the best time to be planning trips, anyway ... but it was fun to think about.

At least I got a memory pothole (about arlonet) filled in.
