Haven't had much time lately to read the topical threads, so I'll collect all my thoughts in one thread..

Could it be the end of Bush, & maybe the conservative movement?

After Katrina, outside of about 12 rednecks & a couple of FOX News personalities, can there possibly be anybody left in this country who thinks that Bush is a good Pres. or that the Republican's style of let's-cut-taxes,-start-a-war-then-go-on-vacation style of government actually works??

It's a good opportunity for the Democrats to grab some seats in the Senate elections, maybe unseat Santorum & some others, & get momentum for the Presidential election, provided that they get a good candidate (which Kerry wasn't).

Katrina relief will explode the deficit just when we thought it could get no worse. Any Republican who continues with the mantra that tax cuts for the rich will help us "grow out of the deficit" is doomed to defeat. What else can they run on now? Besides tax cuts & tax rebate checks, about all they could campaign on previously was to capitalize on the public's belief that the Republicans could keep us safer. That's all out the window now that Bush's unqualified cronies at FEMA bungled things in New Orleans. And somehow the "threat" of gay marriage won't seem so important to some southeners.

That's tonight's sermon....

P.T. Barnum once said, "You can Never underestimate the intelligence of the general public."

On target Louise!

You have to wonder if people are paying any attention.

Like ending the debit card program for Katrina victims and saying that they now could apply through normal channels and the government would put money in their accounts using direct deposit.
A. The most needy victims likely don't have bank accounts.
B. The banks were under water.

Now Bush insists he'll assist New Orleans by cutting funding to government programs.
Many from New Orleans rely on those very programs.

Clowns? Your depiction is probably too benign. Circus, yes. Politicians everywhere have been offering us the old shell game for years.

I had read somewhere about that folks couldn't access their bank accts cuz the banks were closed due to be under water or damaged. The debit card sytem would've been faster & better...

Some years ago, I had a thought that, seein's as they were so similar in a lot of ways and offering no real alternative form of government, they should combine both the Republican and Democrat parties and call it the "Republicrat" (or, as I like to think of it, "Republic-Rat") party. But now, it seems to me that the Republicans are, for the most part, a cruel, dirty bunch of mean nasties who should be toastin' in some afterlife of eternal pain and suffering (is that a little over the top?). The Group W bench is way too good for them! Even though the Democrats seemed to have lost their cajones in the last couple of elections, I don't see how anyone with half a freakin' brain would want to let the Republicans stay in power.
