In "Rolling Stone's" new issue(844) for July 6th. Pete has a letter in "Correspondence Love Letters and Advice". Neatly signed with his little banjo icon. One quote from Pete's letter (for those of you who haven't allready read it) "Hooray for MUCKRAKING jounalists and journals like RS who print them!" I won't spoil the rest. It's feedback from "In the Jungle"RS 841. I just have to dream that I may be so outspoken at 80 yrs. of age!..............

Pete is a hero. We sure are lucky to have him as one of our role models. And yes, I too hope I'm as outspoken as he when I get into my 8th decade. Just hope I'm as lucid too......

right on kittywest! I was lucky enough to meet Pete when I was just a teenager. He made an impression on me, that stuck like glue. I hadn't even heard of the man. My mother thrust me into going, and was kind enough to sit in the box seats. I sat on the grass (with all these long hairs, drinking wine and singing along to his songs) The man could tell a story (still can) and it just makes you want to listen. And he can make people sing, even if they don't know the words. For some reason even the introverts, start singing along. America has allot of great treasure's, and "Pete Seeger" is one of them.

Mike & I met Pete at a few Arlo gigs & he's a really nice man. A real legend!

We don't get Rolling Stone anymore. If we all can't find it, we're going to need the whole letter, RB. Thanks for letting us know.

Okay Pat, how can I deny your request. Not only that but "RS" magizine is semi-monthly. And Dave had to get out the lil red truck and move this post (where it properly belonged) or ya might have read it earlier.
So here goes. It's not quite the same without the banjo icon, but I am only one man!LOL P.S. I hate copying somone elses letter, so I hope you like it!

Hooray FOR MUCKRACKING journalist like Rolling Stone that will print them ("In the Jungle," RS#841) Even if Rian Malan did not get all his adjectives straight, in the main he did what was long needed. Now the way is open for reform in world copyright laws, so that someone who puts new words or a new arrangement to a public-domain melody can collect some of the royalties, but not all. For example, the English lawyer who wrote "Danny Boy" should have got 50% of the royalties, but the other 50% could of gone to a folk-song archive in County Derry, Ireland, where the melody "Londonderry Air" was composed 400 yrs. ago. I hope there will now be disscussions in many little "Folk Song" journals like Sing Out!(610-865-5366). In a few years there should be changed rules in the offices of "intellectual property" in Geneva, as well as in Washington D.C.

If there is any fault on Pete Seeger's part, it is that he is more of an artist than a businessman. It is a sad reality that despite Pete's own honorable desires, greed and injustice still manifested themselves. It is good to know that some of this injustice is finally being rectified.
