My mrs. was always a Donovan fan and when I saw he was playing in Albany, I got tickets. I hope I can figure out the streets since the I787 exit is being worked on again. Anyone going tonight?

I saw Donovan last year in Hoboken NJ. He was to perform at a free outdoor festival but the weather forecast was for thunderstorms so the event was postponed. It turned out to be a beautiful day and since the town had flown Donovan over just for this show it was moved into a theater at a local univesity and they charged $10 at the door. What a bargain! Donovan played a full solo acoustic set, then a set with a pick up band of local musicians who were to perform that day. He even had a horn section on Mellow Yellow. Hope you had a great time. Did you tape the show?

It was a great show. He had upright base, drums, lead guitar, and piano/organ/synth/flute/sax backing him. They started out electric with Hurdy Gurdy Man and moved through jazz and pop and reggae and back again. I was thinking accoustic when I got the tickets but that's just scratching the surface. All the favourites and "Local Boy Chops Wood" ode to friends Jimi Hendrix and Brian Jones who passed on too soon. Donovan encouraged singalongs (Colours, Atlantis, ...) and everyone seemed to have a good time. All the seats at The Egg have good sound but next time I will order the tickets directly from The Egg box office.

A lot of stuff was happening 40 years ago like Catch The Wind where you hear the influence of Woody Guthrie. Best quote of the evening: "You know the best thing about the 40th anniversary? I'm still alive."

I should get a tape deck. I've been helping folks without bittorrent access but it would be nice to make audio snapshots myself. How bad can it be getting from cassette to .wav?
