I only saw one of Pete's shows, at UMO about 30 years ago. It has always been one of the best concerts I ever attended.

It occurs to me that, even now, I am younger than he was then. But you'd never know it by the energy he brought to the stage. He had more energy than I had even then, although Pete got me motivated enough to work on Jacob's Ladder on the guitar back at the dorm.

He's still like the energizer bunny.

What was on the banjo, "this Banjo circles Hate and keeps it out?"
Didn't woody have something written on his guitar like that, too?

Thanks, Pete.

Keep trying to make us one harmonious world!

Mark

Happy birthday to Pete; we all owe him a lot; among other things, for teaching us to care withing letting cares weigh us down.

Woody would put:

This machine kills fascists

on guitars. Pete never gives up on anybody so his banjos say:

This machine surrounds hatred and forces it to surrender.

Pete's optimism that getting people to sing together can save the world in spite of everything is awe inspiring.

I heard Pete Seeger’s records for the first time in the 70‘s. (I only knew the french adaptations by Graeme Allwright). I was fascinated, and always now ,by his songs and his engagement in the causes he defends. (Pete also gave me the desire for learning the banjo).
Thanks Pete, happy birthday

I remember him showing us his banjo & telling us a story of how it was 100 yrs old & he got it from some old man. Pretty neat banjo & story...

Thanks, kurt, for reminding me of the wording. I've been running out of memory for many years now. Nice that everybody at arlonet can serve as a pagefile.

Thanks again,

Mark

Pete was spry and in good spirits and playing well. If only I could learn 1/10th of what he shares with us.
