My old friend and drummer, Paul Motian passed away early this morning. He was 80 years old, and one of the finest jazz drummers there ever was. He was also one of the kindest people I ever had to pleasure to know. Paul played with me at Woodstock and we'd been in contact during the last couple of years - just trying to catch up. We didn't get a chance to do it in person. I loved this guy - it's as simple as that.

So sorry to hear about him hon. Hugs. I had come across something online on his passing but didn't know who he was. I had no idea you knew him.

I did not know about this until I posted the other day about Johnny Otis. I loved Paul Motions music from the 70's on. I immediately went and put on some of his interpretations of Monk and even pulled some old records (doesn't happen often these days) of old Paul and Bill Frisell recordings. He was a great drummer and leader of a diverse and inspiring group of musicians!

I found an old recording of this song on a soul note release from 1987 when it was a quintet. Love this song. I also have been playing Monk in Motion a lot from 1981.
