After watching the documentary 'There but for Fortune' about Phil Ochs I'm having a torrent of emotion. His life is the most heartbreaking story I've ever heard. The way he campaigned for everything, fought every battle and didn't win a single one, the fact that the things he fought for are still problems today. I would have given everything to meet him, or even be alive when he was. After listening to his music I feel almost ashamed that I can't be fighting for what he believed in today, it seems that everyone has just accepted war as a part of everyday life, it's too vague, you can't protest against something that you barely see. His music has touched my heart more than any other and his life story broke it.

I wish there was a way for me to carry on his legacy, but the youth in Australia are far too busy to care. Hopefully there will be a way to do so when I finish my degree and start teaching in secondary schools.

I recommend to anyone who has loved Ochs' music to watch 'There but for Fortune'. It's brilliant.

I want to thank you for recommending this documentary. I got a copy and love it. I have never forgotten the music, but in the haze of passing years I had lost sight of the man behind it. This documentary brings him and all he stood for back to life.
