Judy - I read that you just might be tempted to go to the music store to buy a Dylan CD. Well, I just got a Victoria's Secret catalog today and
the have a new CD by him for sale in the catalog and in the stores.
No need to run to the music store....buy your underwear and a CD
all at once!

...yup, i think you're right Judy....Arlo sang the folger's theme..... another brain meltdown for me...well, a partial one anyway......
...so if anyone is interested you can read all the angst and celebration that ran in the newsgroups (1997-1998) go to

http://groups.google.com/groups

...i used folgers guthrie in the search and came up with lots of messages in the controversy.....fyi....

...as for when Dylan's commercial plays,Terrie, i remember seeing it during SNL which would make it network.....if you check out rec.music. dylan on the search at the above link...you might find out more or be able to read the silly business it's stirring up over there.....it's a current topic...

and yes, Judy....if that commercial doesn't bring a smile...what will??

You know, I was just getting ready for bed and already half asleep, when a sudden thought occurred to me. A revelation, really. Why don't the Victoria's Secret people ask Arlo to be in one of their commercials? I mean, he's already got a song about underwear! Remember??!

"You look good in your underwear
Way out in the country."

Somebody send them a "Someday" CD!

Sorry, Arlo. And Jackie. My mind tends to wander to some very weird places this time of night.

Well, here it is, morning, and my mind is still visiting that same weird place, and I'm sitting here thinking, what a market Victoria's Secret would have if they had both Bob Dylan and Arlo appearing in their commercials! Just think of all the aging Baby Boomer Bra-Burners they could attract, women who finally see the light about underwear after seeing Bob and Arlo in their commercials.....and after seeing the effects of gravity. And VS wouldn't have to limit their products to women, either. They could start a whole line of tie-dyed underwear, for both women and men! The possibilities are endless! And who knows?! Victoria's Secret might ask both Bob and Arlo to appear in the same commercial at the same time and place and everything, and BOB DYLAN COULD BE SINGING AN OLD ARLO GUTHRIE SONG!!!!

Oh, Regina, you've really got my mind going now!

I think I better go eat breakfast.

I'd like to buy & get a free cd but can't cuz their underwear only comes in anorexic sizes & not my size. Sigh... If they'd cater to the plus sized market they'd get awhole lot more business...

Now "funny" is not a word I've ever really associated with Bob Dylan, except for the stories Arlo tells, and it's not Bob himself that's funny in those stories, but the way Arlo talks about him. The man just always seems SO SERIOUS!!![/quote ]

I think Judy (quote above) came closest to what I was thinking...Maybe it just startled me because it was so out of charactor. I certainly don't think any less of him and hope I didnt come across sounding that way. "Capitalism ain't all that weird".

I think I might have been a little edgy about the subject because I had just read that some of the female offspring of (my beloved) Johnny Cash, were trying to work out a deal for a hemeroid(spell?) ointment commercial to use his song "Ring of Fire" as the background. Thankfully, it was stopped before it went too far. I agree that there is a big difference between the two situations. Yes, I like seeing Dylan out there (although, I'll pass on his modeling the merchandise) and I hope he made a bundle. You're right, maybe the kids will "Discover him". LOL

Oh, God, Reg! That would be too weird, even for me, especially knowing what the song is really about. No wonder if you were a bit edgy....which I didn't think you were. :)

Reg, I actually thought the Ring of Fire commercial would have been quite funny, and I think Johnny would have seen the humor in it.

 Judy ... what a mind! Too funny.

Don't think most of us women are the right demographics for Victoria's Secret. Although I've recently seen the woman who would probably be willing to model for the over 50 crowd. Our bookkeeper came back from a vacation on the Mexican Riviera and couldn't resist a picture (lots of Europeans where she went) of two 50+ ladies, in thongs, topless (at least she took it from the back!!) ... and weighing in at 300+ ... omigosh.

They'd have to change the name to "Victoria Should Damn Well Have Kept it Secret" ... and you wouldn't have seen that twinkle in Dylan's eye either--he'd have had them tightly shut, I'm sure!!

Hey, Pam, regarding my mind--all it takes is someone pushing the right button. I have no control over it. I don't even know where the button is. Button? Button? Who's got the button?
