I will really miss Johnny Cash. I like all 48 years worth of his music and I admired him as a person. And another thing, my father and I had totally opposite taste in music except for one thing, we both liked Johnny Cash.

baldwenville: In the many Sunday's I spent listening to John Cash, my Dad ly on the couch (probly nursing a hangover) & it was most inevitably the largest link in our chain. Yrs. ago my Dad & I were light yrs. away in ideas and philosophy's. BUT, when it came to Johny Cash, we had a common link. We both loved his music, what he was saying, & who he was saying it to. In watching the news coverage of Johny's death, it reminded me much of Woody Guthrie, & how he stood up for the common day man. If a mans a Dr., Lawyer, Carpenter, or trashman. A man is 'just' a man. I think Johny had that concept well honed.

NTM: After a few of Johns records, I could switch to Neil Youngs 'Ol Lonesome me' and have the ol man believing it was Don Gibson...lol...True story. Hell even Sticky fingers sounded the same after a lil John. (& a beer) After all 'Sister Morphine' is just a country song, sang by a Rock Group?

Ya'll just triggered a memeory in my mind I had forgotten about. Now that I think about it my dad had an 8-track tape in the 70's of Johnny Cash which he played in his Lear Jet 8-track deck in his car. The 8-track deck ate it up & he was so p-d off. Funny thing was he wasn't much into country music...

Johnny Cash was the one thing my father and I could talk about. I never got to thank Mr. Cash for that - but someone who works those kind of miracles will never leave my heart.

Bob Keeshan, Captain Kangaroo, Dies at 76
(AP) - Bob Keeshan, who gently entertained and educated generations of children as television's walrus-mustachioed Captain Kangaroo, died Friday at 76. Keeshan died of a long illness, his family said in a statement. Keeshan's "Captain Kangaroo" debuted on CBS television in 1955 and ran for 30 years before moving to public television for six more.

Not an individual, but mourned none the less, a big part of the music scene in NYC and in the lives of thousands of performers and fans, The Bottom LIne Cabaret quietly gave up it's fight for survival weeks short of it''s 30th anniversary and simply moved out before NYU or the Sheriff could force the issue. Perhaps yet another victim of 9-11 or maybe changing times the club had fallen behind on it's rent to the University and could not come to terms on a new lease despite the financial backing of Sirus Radio and Bruce Springsteen among others. I had the pleasure of attending many shows there over the years and met some of my best friends there. I had the good fortune to attend the last show ever presented there on 01-10-04 The Ribbon Of Highway , Endless Skyway Woody Guthrie Tribute so familiar to many here. The owners and employees were still hoping against hope that an arrangement could be worked out to keep the club open, but it was not to be. So thanks to Allen and Stanley, hope you can find another location to carry on the tradition of great music you've maintained for thirty years.

* The good die young. 'John Slomos' a drummer for Peter Frampton, died in Brooklyn from unknown causes Jan 16th. He was 56. He maybe better known for his work with Todd Rundgren on drums (percussion). Some of the best musicians aren't well known. As Todd would say "All The Children Sing"
