Just about 3 years ago, I heard from my old friend Mike Mulcahay. We were in high school together and hung around the church when Ray and Alice lived there. It was great hearing from him. He'd dropped out of sight for about 30 years. He had a hard life and ran into lots of problems, but was excited about renewing our friendship. We chatted on the phone a few times while he was talking about coming to one of the gigs, dragging his breathing equipment with him. It's what had kept him house bound for a long time. He didn't get out much any more. But he figured we could meet up during the summer and laugh about the good times, when I wrote a verse about him in my motorcycle song. Last night I found out why we hadn't seen him. Mike had passed away sometime about a month or so ago. Hey Buddy! You were a good guy with a big heart. Mike no longer has a bike... Ride Well!

It is always a sad thing when those who you are close too pass away, some say it is a cruel traint fate has, to take those whom over the years we have lost touch with to only find again as they are leaveing. But he will for ever live on your thoughts and music.

You know, just a couple days ago, the thought jumped into my head, "I wonder who Mike is?" I don't know why I thought that--I wasn't listening to the Motorcycle Song or anything--but I've learned over the years that some times there's no point in wondering about where the things that jump into my head come from. Many times there's a reason why such things show up, but I don't always know what it is, and sometimes never know. Maybe a "Mike" vibe was just out there, passing by, and somehow found its way in.

Thanks for sharing your story about Mike with us, Arlo. My prayers are with him and those who loved him.

A long time back, I had called the Guthrie Cnt. and someone told me, that you ( Arlo ) was busy, as his friend Mike had just passed on... ( died) And I asked, " it wasn't the Mike, from the Motor Cycle song was it"? and the person on the other end of the phone said, no, not that Mike. And I said, well none-the-less, I'm sorry bout that. Always sad to lose a friend.....

Ironic, I had that phone conversation.... ( I usually remember names to whom I'm speaking to, but it escapes me, as it was awhile back)

But anyway, I can honestly say, I know what it's like to lose friends. My condolences Arlo. If you put him ( Mike ) in a song, he will live on forever. Yet that doesn't always take away the sting!!! ( but in some kharmic way, it does sound like it would help)

I have a friend who's house-bond with breathing stuff... ( enphazema ) and God-Willing, I will be able to visit him, after Aug 7th.... One of my many fears of getting into my jam....

I'm gonna play the 'Motor Cycle' song off from Alices Rest. and pay tribute to your lost friend....

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend Arlo. I lost 2 friends since Dec so I know how it feels. I'll start to pray for them & then realize they are gone. I never thought I'd live to be old enough to have friends pass on. One died of heart trouble at 59 & the other of cancer at 40 something. Life is way too short. A guy Mike went to school with just died the other week of a sudden heart attack. May God with you & your friends family at this time. Love to you...

It wasn't a previous Mike that passed. Someone answering phones, had said, that Arlo was busy, and as his friend 'RAY' had just died......


So I was going, like, " OH NO, NOT RAY from the song. Not the song Ray... And the gal said, No Robert, not Ray from the song, another Ray.....

I don't know why I thought it was a Mike.....

Anyhow, All sinceritys'... With Ray a few yrs. back..... and Mike as of late....

Whoever Ray was.... My condolences...

I fit the profile... That guys 10 yrs too late., get him outta here....

Death should be hard for everyone, some take it too lightly of course, but in the main it's the hardest thing we have to deal with. Someone asked me how it was when my Dad died, and I said it was like running into a brick wall at a hundred miles an hour. I guess it's the same for most people.
