Just got tickets for a Levon Midnight Ramble. Anybody done this before? THe first time I saw Levon play was in Fort Worth Texas in 1974 when he was part of that Bob Dylan and the Band tour. A friend who grew up near Woodstock and who now lives in Norman OK where he runs an Oil Exploration outfit called Nervous Energy (love that name) called and asked if I want to attend. Hangin' with Levon, are you kiddin'? I might even cruise through Stockbridge and Housatonic if the weather is good (my brothers are coming from California and Texas and they never been in that neck of the woods before). Anyways, any Midnight Ramble Stories out there?

well, i haven't any stories...but i do like that song. in fact, i wouldn't believe it if anyone said that they didn't like it...'course that is just my opinion.

definitely looking forward to this one! did you ever read that book this wheel's on fire by Levon. couldn't put it down! I always thought it would be fun to party a little too much with Rick Danko, Richard Manuel and Levon Helm, I guess they done some Honky Tonkin'. My nervous energy buddy (an old guitar pickin' friend from the Norman Oklahoma days, one of them Grateful Dead / Merle Haggard / Johnny Cash types (mostly Dead filtered) who loves to space for awhile on China Cat Sunflower but I can't keep up with all them modulations, you know I can't think that much when I have had a few pints, I can play it in G for a bit then he modulates and I just hold the guitar, dink..a ba dink.. de de dink). I love Levon's solo stuff and he does Junkyard (Brickyard) Blues better than that three dog night bunch (play something sweet, play something mellow, play something I can sink my teeth into like jello, play somethin I can understand...play me some junkyard blues). I was so glad to hear he beat that cancer rap that old Arkie son of gun!

actually I had an emergency trip to Texas, seems the old folks home where my mom has been had a christmas tree fire. can you imagine being one of those firemen dealing with that? I can't imagine evacuating a home full of old folks.

I enjoyed the Midnight Ramble so much that now Levon is coming to Baltimore I am going to go see him again. He is traveling with the bunch I saw in the barn as far as I can tell and the new CD is really good (the version of Steve Earles the Mountain was catching on in the UK when I was over there last). Levon is great fun if you get a chance! I don't get to stay in Big Pink this time though!

I saw Levon a few years back drumming for a blues band during the time he could not sing,or even speak after his illness.Great to hear him again! And, some family friends of ours have a daughter who is dating a guy whose parents now actually own and live in Big Pink. I've told her I'll need a tour sometime.

it was a great show with a big horn section and that great fat sound (two baritone saxs at times) the set started with Ophelia and it was full of great moments especially a version of It Makes No Difference (a song I have always liked and fun to play as well)
