tomorrow, September 20, that we lost Steve Goodman to leukemia. He's been missed!

Wow, has it been that long? RIP...

I always wish I could have seen him in concert. He was great!

i did get to see him in concert. It was a small auditorium in new joisey somewhere (i get lost whenever i cross over the bridges...) and it was just Steve up on stage, fidgeting and fixing the guitar, and between that, just entertaining the hell out of all of us
He didn't write it, but I recall The Dutchman always being a crowd-pleaser... and of course CONO

I love his version of The Dutchman!

There's a couple of people I really regret not seeing in concert while they were alive...Steve Goodman was one and John Hartford is another.

And for me too Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, John Denver and others...

I saw Steve Goodman open for Joan Baez here in DC in 1975 -- it was my first post-high school summer concert. He was great; what sticks most in my mind was that he broke a guitar string right in the middle of the Moby Dick song (my personal favorite) and just kept right on singing while he changed the string.

Ahh yes. The Dutchman was penned by Micheal Smith. I have had the pleasure of being his sound guy at our venue recently and once a few years back. A great writer and wit.

We had Michael Smith here at our Folk Club a few months ago...his "Dead Egyptian Blues" was a hoot!!
