The tape of Pete Seeger singing at the latest Farm Aid in Saratoga Springs in September,2013 should be viewed by every fan who wondered if an artist gets too old, what is the point of still being out there? Pete showed again why he should be out there to the end having lost his wife Toshi in July after almost 70 years together. He did not have to sing great,he just stood there with that banjo near Willie Nelson and made another political point, this time about fracking drilling in New York. How many artists in their twilight status want to keep telling us what is important? So,while his death is fresh to the world wide community and the neighbors of Beacon and to Arlo, let us dig out our Pete music and play and share it. I have a 1963 video from a Sydney,Australia concert in which as part of a bonus feature,Pete took his axe on stage and chopped at a tree trunk part as he sang. All our memories of him with Arlo at Carnegie Hall annual gatherings produced by the great Harold Leventhal or wherever you saw him should just remind us how lucky we are and were to be given all that musical history and be pointed for the most part in the left direction! Arlo does not need to do anything more than he already has as a performer but his Guthrie Center does a lot of good work and you may want to check out its site and of course, the Clearwater site.
