Sunday's May 1st, 05 article written by John Terry talks about how Woody got paid $266.00 for a thirty day contract with Bonneville Power Administration, for which he wrote 26 songs. "This Land is Your Land this Land is My Land" and "Roll on Columbia" are among them. Several years ago now The Hood River Electirc Co-op board of directors decreed his name be stripped from a substation--long before dedicated to Guthrrie. Hood River Electric bought it from BPA. "The board's rationale at the time was that his 'radical' views rendered him too politically incorrect for it's clientele." John Terry goes on to say, "The board apparently let slip from its collective mind:

and me.'

Two weeks ago Arlo came to our town in WA. State and we are still buzzing with his passion and poetry. I was happy to see this article in the Oregonian about Woody. I have a feelin that times 'they are a changin', which means not changing, and that we need the passion and compassion of this father and son. Our land is in need of healing, Arlo's and Woody's music are good medicine.

I didn't know of this development and as an Oregon born citizen (who still can vote there) I am upset by this.
Me thinks I may have to look into this more, especially when I make my next visit back home to Portland.

I'm not so sure my dad would have enjoyed having a sub-station named after him to begin with. Have you seen a sub-station? An ugly little piece of grey machinery like something out of a sci-fi horror movie. Let's keep his name off it - let sleeping dogs lay there.

Good thought. Energy spent in the present spreading kindness is much more efficient than digging in the dark of a boardroom somewhere. Thanks for your response Arlo. The article in the Oregonian grabbed my husband's and my attention because a couple of weeks ago you were in Longview WA. and we are still energized by you and your message. No 'herding mentality for us'! You filled our Columbia Theatre with more love and common sense than I've seen before. Really.

Hi AG! Nice to see ya on here hon! Hope you're doing well. We have a substation down the road from us. The only good thing about them is if the power goes off it's usually quicker getting it back on when a substation is nearby. Btw, we have the same power co as Pete Seegers brother Mike. Some yrs ago they did a feature on him in their magazine they put out each month...
