I just read about this on the homepage, I can't wait to get it. You can't ever have too many Arlo CDs. I love live shows on CD, too. It will be good to have a lot of the songs that he usually performs.

Hopefully this will tide me over until my first Church show in October

I one time thought it'd be a good idea for the Guthrie Center to have a guest book. So you could know who's there, that you maybe havent met yet.

But in hindsight, it being a Church and all, it might seem like a funeral....

I finally received my copy of Live in Sydney from RSR yesterday together with Pete Seeger and Arlo Together in Concert 1974. Had to wait for it a long time since the package took a detour over Denmark before finally arriving in Germany (wrong Land code). Both CD's are just great and I'm having so much joy listening to them. RSR threw in a package of Arlo Tomatoes which will attract large moose-like creatures. Well, I will plant them next spring and will be waiting for whatever comes along.
Since I never had the chance of being at an Arlo concert, Live in Sydney gives me a little bit of the great feeling people have who are there.

Our major paper, The Courier Mail, has a column on Saturdays, in the entertainment section, called 'Your View' where you can write a review, in 100 words or less, about a book you've read, movie you've seen, song you've heard etc. Well I did a review of Live in Sydney, and guess what.....They printed it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It wasn't easy tryin' to keep it to 100 words, since I also mentioned Alice's birthday and RSR in there.

Congratulations, Weezie!!!

This is something that we have in common, as Arlo was the subject of 3 paragraphs that I submitted to our local paper, & I, too, got published. I'd been published before, but this time they sent me a check for $5 (that's $1.67 per paragraph!), so now I call myself a professional writer (lol).

Actually, the subject matter was how kids & parents cope with each other's music, & one of the things I discussed was taking the kids to see Arlo in '00 & '01.

I believe that I had the same 100-word limit. Imagine that....those of you who suffer thru reading my posts know that often I need 100 words just to get warmed up, so it's a challenge to be that concise.

So ... Louise, Joe ... if it wouldn't be too much trouble for either of you to post as much as 100 words, would you maybe post your prize-winning prose for the rest of us to read? Please?

Well, since you asked....

Believe me, it's nothing prize-winning. Luckily the local paper still had it on their web site. Either I exceeded the 100-word limit or the limit was something more than 100 words. Memory fails sometimes. This was published in May 2003:

Hey kids, let's go see Arlo

I always told myself that I wouldn't be like my dad, always trashing my kids' music (14-year-old daughter and two sons ages 9 and 12), but I can't help it. Today's popular music is absolutely terrible. All I hear are drum machines and tape-looped rhythm tracks so that the riffs all sound exactly the same throughout the song. This sterile music is devoid of the energy and spontaneity that I like in my music. As for rap, I think they should wrap Eminem up and send him back!

In 2000, my wife and I dragged the kids to see Arlo Guthrie in concert. When Arlo came back in 2001, the boys asked if they could come along.

My daughter is not very interested in anything that happened before she was born. Whenever she and her friends get into our car, she immediately apologizes to them for whatever tape I'm playing. I say they can walk if they don't like it.

About a month or 2 later, I was at my son's first little league game of the season & went to the stand to get a Coke. One of the women working the stand pointed at me & exclaimed, "I saw what you wrote! Wrap up Eminem & send him back!!!" & started laughing hysterically. It's nice to be recognized, I suppose....

Oh Joe, you are so right. Not all of it, but lots of it makes my ears hurt and my head spin and makes me aggressive. too. While Arlo music puts a smile on my face. But I wonder if my parents felt the same back then when I was listening to lets say Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and so on.

AND, somebody at the paper made a mistake when editing it or setting the type and so Rising Son Records became Rising Sun Records in print!!!
But I figure intelligent people who really want to get the CD will just GOOGLE Arlo Guthrie Live in Sydney and get to RSR that way!

Remember Alice? This year marks the 40th birthday of that timeless (18:20 min) monologue 'Alices Resturant' with it's catchy tune and (brain sticking) chorus. Arlo Guthrie was on tour in Australia last year when this double CD 'Live in Sydney' was recorded. It has just been released by Rising Sun (Son) Records. If you were at one of the concerts, it will bring back great memories but if not, you will enjoy amusing stories, music and songs from (Mr.) Guthrie's four decades of writing and recording, along with songs (penned) by others such as Bob Dylan, Kris Kristofferson and Woody Guthrie.



So there you have it, in a nut shell. I sure felt restricted by the 100 word limit!
Still don't know what the PRIZE is and don't really care. Just wanted to let people know that it's out there!

I got my copy of "Live in Sydney" yesterday, and played it for the first time today. Wow! I couldn't believe that was a live album- the sound quality was absolutely crystal clear!

Arlo is one of only a handful of performers whose live albums are better than their studio albums. This one is great!
