I originally handwrote this letter, but realized I had no clue where to actually send it so I figured I would post it here. I don't think I've ever really written any fan mail before, but I have been on a streak of writing thank you notes to the people who've helped me in my life and I think Arlo Guthrie is deserving of one too. I'd never listened to much folk music or even heard of Arlo Guthrie until someone who helps me out introduced me to Alice's Restaurant when I told him I was playing more guitar. He asked what type of music I was playing and I said I was learning some of Bob Dylan's tunes. He told me I was gonna love this and made me listen to the whole song during our meeting. I then proceeded to make everyone in my life listen as well. I think I got a little too excited trying to listen to everything. Even watched the episode on the Muppet show with the legend himself (side note: what was going on with that shirt?). I really enjoy folk music now, and obviously enjoy Arlo Guthrie's music. I think what has really stuck with me though has been listening to someone who takes so much joy in live performances. Wow! He really puts his heart and soul into his work and I admire that in a way I'm struggling to express. The joy of sharing folk music is evident in all the recordings I have listened to. I started playing a lot more guitar since the last time I was released from the psych ward. I'm doing a lot better now. Guitar really helps, so I guess a big thank you to Mr. Arlo Guthrie for having so many tunes I can pick at. Apologies if this letter seems a bit cheesy or dull. I just wanted to express some gratitude for the role Arlo Guthrie's music has played in my life these past few months.
