Does Arlo get a solo in this show? The PBS site seems to be omitting any mention of him while highlighting others.

nobody really got a solo, but Arlo was featured more than once.

For those in the N.Y area, I see that channell 13 is airing it again tonight at 7:00.

It will be airing on wlvt 39 (Bethlehem PA) on Sunday, August 2. On my cable company it's channel 12. There is a DVD available. I was at Madison Square Garden and I can't wait to see it again!

Caught the show tonight on PBS. What a joy!

I was born in 1954, so a child in 1963, but this music is the frame, the center of so much happiness and opening up to a bigger world in my life.

len, i can relate to what your saying. I was in that 57 crowd. ( there's host of us that share the same birth yr. on the site) anyhow, yes that music was a catylist of who we are.

My first concert was seeing Pete at age 12. It was my Mother dragged me to the thing. ( she was kewl tho, and didn't make me sit by her ) I was basically pacifying my Mom who really insisted I go to this show. Hell at 12 yrs. old I didn't even know who Pete Seeger was.

He had an old hay wagon set up, with some props, haybails, ect. Bango, guitar and tamborene. When I saw this guy, telling story's about songs from literally all over the world, ntm: seemed to have this ability to get the whole crowd singing I was impressed. That concert really changed my life.

I think what turned me on about Pete, was there were some local Hippy's that lived in my area. They had constructed a geodestic dome, and it became a commune, with folks from Boston, and all over New England... Well the laws were differant back then, and the Hippys ( who a few yrs. later I befriended) all were dancing, and had openly drank bottles of wine, ntm: the herb was fragrant. Pete Really warmed up to those paticular folks. As there were allot of, stick in the mud types, in attendance. & Pete really warmed up, to the commune people. ntm: had most all those stick in the mud types, singing along, before the night was thru... I loved the way, he sings the verses, twice. Once to teach the newby singers, and again to catch up with whatever song he's singing.

Anyone have a fav. Pete Seeger Song? It's hard for me to choose, altho I've always loved his version of Malvena Renolds "Little Boxes".

Sailing Down this Golden River, is probly my favorite one, that Pete penned.

My folks watched with me. My mom said Arlo wasn't on enough & I agreed with here. I think I might've posted the wrong channel as being the one it was on. I think I said it was gonna be on ch 23 but I was actually ch 57. Ch 23 was gonna show a disco show lol. Looking at the info for that one, the only thing that would've made it worth looking at was that the Bee-Gees and KC & the Sunshine Band were supposed to be on it. Other than them, I bet it stunk lol.

I agree, Cheryl. It seems the powers did the demographic slice and dice which pushed the pop image but killed the continuity of the story of American folk. I expect they defend that by saying most audience for the time slice and in PBS which depends on donations, they could be right.

But more Arlo would've been more honest about Pete's world as far as I can see from the cheap seats.

God bless 'em all for getting up there. The banjo duo was frikkin fantastic. Joan's choral piece was powerfully sublime.

Worried Man Blues was appreciated much. My daddy's music. Great show. Everyone on the stage was giving 110.

It was a good show. I hope they didn't cut anything out...

Hi Cheryl H -- I was at MSG and the show was over 3 hours long, with almost no down time between the various sets. The GP broadcast cut *a lot* -- not just a lot of songs left out, but also a lot of songs left in were shortened. (For example, Richie Haven's performance of Freedom/Motherless Child just felt different live, because it just built and built until the end -- the broadcast shortened it, so you didn't really hear the way it built or the explosion/eruption from the audience when it ended -- it was the most "electrifying" of the performances.)

I know PBS had to cut something like this -- egad, a 3.5-hour PBS special plus pledge breaks would probably last 2 full days -- and they did pick some great highlights (completely out of order), but I really would just like to have seen the whole thing again, straight through, as it was. I can't tell if the offered DVD is like that and am not quite willing to shell out $90 to find out it's not what I want. (I do support PBS, I do, including financially, but I'm always annoyed that the only time I see something like this is during pledge season.)

Which is why we need the Ultimate Bootleg Server so people can take their cameras in and make their own versions of that reality that day. Imagine a database full of all of the cellphone, minicams, etc., to provide a thousand angles (more eyes; more angles) and one decent board recording with annotations. The mashups would be fab. Some will claim that would reduce sales of the official DVD. Others say it would increase sales.

But I hate the thought that a few hours of Great Performances got left on the floor of the digital editing suite. Look at the stuff we have today only because mrs. g. sees to it that we have it at YouTube. Who knew we'd have to steal the American legacy back from ourselves for ourselves?
