I forgot to mention that "Back-half Arnie" was going to tap dance to a rendition of "Backfield in Motion" while Larry juggled The Brain Cell with one hand (the other hand will either hold the hockey stick or a fire extinguisher.).

I dunno if people would pay to see this kinda thing, but if it's a fundraiser for the church, I'll start working on my wardrobe.

I guess my loftiest goal is to see Arlo at the Guthrie Center. Every year I try to figure out a way to make it happen, but it never seems to. I've been following Arlo since I was ten. My wife calls me a farlower. There was no selective service registration when I turned eighteen. Unlike all my children I was not required to required to register for the draft. Arlo didn't do this single handedly...but let's just say he was part of a movement and he was singing loud. I trust Arlo's judgment not just because of this early great work, but because of the constant great things I have seen from age ten till now.

Yup, Ive said that for years, people lose site (by design) that Arlo etc is a business. Arlo and family do a great job of making each show different & fresh. It always bothered me when I hear complaints from the occasional visitor that jokes or stories are "the same" Its like complaining that a Broadway show is always the same. The "same" is always quality entertainment - and it goes on successfully for years!!!

It might be a good time to sit back and think about the commercialism that Arlo himself is so against. For all the discussions about the loss of the "warmth" at the GC , the subliminal T-shirt plugs from stage, or the loss of the meet & greets (Try doing his schedule for months on end - and see if you want to pretend you enjoy hearing..."I saw you 23 year ago in Fargo - do you remember me?" for an extra 1/2 hour after the shows.) - I say, people - get over it! I know I try to make my customers feel I really care about them & Im sure most of us do. Try to remember -for Arlo too, its a job...& just because he does it well, it doesnt mean it is "fun" for him.

Although my heart breaks for those who were counting the days until we all saw eachother again - Arlo "inc" has the same bills to pay (and then some) in a bad economy, as we do. "Capitalism ain't that weird"! So, safe travel Arlo! Thanks for doing what you do...and I know YOU won't be offended when I say - somewhere else besides the Berks on our vacations this year (thinking warm right now) would not be so hard for us to take.

So Blunderites - where do we all meet this year?

That doesn't mean forgetting to monitarily support the GC. Who will probably need it even more.

The Guthrie Center is a spiritual home and that is a garden. Gardeners must step back to see if the garden will grow on its own as it must to continue. My zen master told me once that it is a bad idea to look at a plants roots to see if it is growing.

When you live where it's hot in the summer, the Berkshires look like heaven.

And Len - I hear ya - but Arlo is not a friend - he is a wonderfully generous performer. He has his own friends - and luckily due to him I have even more.

I get that Reg, but he has more than once said he preferred the term 'friends' to 'fans'.
