I've heard most of the ones mentioned and I agree with the comment that the way you first hear a song is how it's meant to be sung. Thats a real problem for me when I go to play and sing songs because I always end up doing their version rather than my own, Anyways.

Even though I heard the animals version first in this particular occasion I'm going to say my favourite is Dave Van Ronk's followed closely by Arlo.
