Hey, mikey, how did you know that rare bit of history?
My late mom was born & raised in the country near Hibbing, class of '42. I visited from Seattle, but didn't live here 'til almost a decade ago.
I think even Mr. Dylan would like to forget he was born in Duluth, MN and raised here through Hibbing High School. This town painted his portrait on his old house's garage door, named the street between there and HHS (beautiful - I have paintings/local artist - school built with big mining money/gold faucets-marble bathrooms-lovely auditorium) after him, restaurant/nightclub named Zimmy's, Bob Dylan Days, museum in local library, unbelievable...but he's never responded to the red carpet.
I've sung in some of the same places his first bands did, way back then. In little Hibbing, where all I know is pretty country, lakes, good folks, snowmobile/4wheeler/bike/walk trails all over the place. And no traffic!
Ya'll are welcome! So I repeat, after my rambling, how did you know?

I've got a question for you longer-timers here:
I just found (going through boxes brought from Seattle a decade ago) an "American Greetings presents ARLO GUTHRIE" card I gave my parents circa 1970. Has a photo on the front of the Folksinger (copyright 1967) that predates the Tales of 1969 album cover. Would it be proper to post it here...or where? I've got small, scanned photos of it in My Pictures. Think many might like to see it, but don't wish to assume (learned my lessons there - still do)-maybe even Mr. Guthrie?
I'll defer to adg's most-longtime friends as to what to do...
Any advice will be most gratefully appreciated!

Barbara is right y'all have been so kind and accepting of us just migrating and sharing your space here on Arlo's site.
I kinda like it here and have read alot of your previous postings and you guys are hilarious, Quincy and I enjoy your stories. I have alot in common with so many of you.
Just so everyone knows Quincy is my loyal 13yr old Dalmatian that has been with me through thick and thin , good times and bad. He laughs with me by wagging his tail and is also there to lick away my tears. Now it it my turn to do the same for him. He was diagnosed with diabetis 2yrs ago and went blind 2 weeks after that.
He is near the end of his life and I have dedicated my time to him as he did to me 12 and a 1/2 yrs ago.
We are together 24/7 and he loves listening to Arlo.
How can I tell, you might ask? Well Quincy is not shy and dosen't hesitate to let me know by the quirky things he does. If he likes the music I am playing he comes and sits with me on the couch, buries his nose and and sighs happily. If he protest he will go and sit on his bed in the kitchen and groans loudly, he then pesters me for food, drink, and everything else he already has but want to disurb me.
He takes to his bed when Dylan is on the playlist.

I agree that is definely a treasure.
It's also good to see Arlo gave up his passion for gooses named AL. and to finally got a real pal, a dog.
I am sure he'll be chuffed to see that, and may even remember doing it.

Thanks for the info. It wasn't showing up for me yesterday but it is now. Strange... Sorry to hear about our diabetic dog. So sad. My late Aunt & Uncle had a dog that got diabetes & had to go on meds. Sadly Pepper eventually passed on. I bet your dog is cute. My late hubby Mike was blind due to having had diabetes for yrs & not knowing it. So far my diabetes hasn't affected my vision & I hope it stays that way...

I am sorry to hear about Mike, and I also pray you don't have any complications regarding your situtation.
I didn't understand diabetis with it not being in the family but became painfully aware of it when it striked one of my loved ones.
Yes, Q is very cute. He dosn't look like an oldtimer, but some of his spots are becoming heartshaped.

FWIW:

My family has it from my grandmother's side and so do I. If you want the positive spin, the diet/exercise regime is a good life once you get used to it even if you don't have diabetes. You may be able to do only that and control it but it is tough if the case is advanced and impossible if Type I. I am assuming you are Type II.

The testing is not fun and as a musician, the last thing I want to do is punch holes in my fingers multiple times everyday. The test units are better and require a lot less blood but the ads saying you can get blood anywhere on the body are misleading. It's fairly awkward. Do get a test unit that uses less blood. The One Touch units are good.

If they give you a choice, choose insulin and choose the pens. The pens are easy to administer and keep and travel well (much less hassle). A two-type approach works well: one for the right before meals shot (short period; fast uptake(novolog)) and one at night just before bed (long period: slow uptake(lantus)). I am told an insulin pump is better but I don't use one.

Diabetes properly paid attention to is mostly a nuisance. Not paid attention to, it's a death sentence. My father refused to do the right thing until much too late and the last years of his life showed the results. It ain't pretty. Do the right thing.

Those who tell you that you have it because of your lifestyle are idiots. You probably have because it runs in the family. What your lifestyle can do is make the effects way worse. I have Type II and I've never been obese.

One thing: if you drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes, give them up now. Drink, cigs and diabetes do not mix. I've buried a friend with that combo.

EVERYTHING you eat is sugar. It really is a matter of regulation although I don't recommend high sugar foods but no matter what you eat, the body is turning it into sugar. It is a matter of how much and what else is included in the food. You need protein, for example, and the diet, calorie counting, etc., is a means to ensure you get what you need without the sugar OD.

Testing is the one reliable means to get it under control. The herbal cures etc. are scams. Meditation helps because it helps your overall health in general by getting your stress under control. Like the diet/exercise, it is good for you in any case. So is having a dog.
