Anyone else have this problem? For 20 years I have dragged friends to Arlo concerts everywhere. Through my teens and twenties there always (ahem) accidentally seemed to be an Arlo show wherever on holidays, weekends away etc.

One friend (booked for show 14 Aug, Ireland) pointed out to me recently that this would be his 5th concert and he does not even have one Arlo CD!!

Of the gang heading to the18 Aug show,(one for their 8th show, one 6th show, one 2nd show, and one arlo virgin) only one has ever listened to a full Arlo CD. No-one is immune to this - both my brothers, a sister and a Mother have all been conscripted at one time or another.

I don’t think I’m unique here, I guess you folks all do the same – (please tell me you do)

Arlo any chance of dedicating a song for the most loyal non Arlo fans who are dragged (smiling rather than screaming) by the rest of us?

I've dragged friends and family to many Arlo concerts, and for the most part, people have loved the concerts. I just dragged a friend and her two daughters aged 11 and 14 to the Boone, NC show. It was the first concert the girls had EVER attended, and everyone loved the experience. Even the mom was an Arlo concert virgin, and the kids were surprised at how much they liked the music...I think they were expecting something they wouldn't like. The storytelling gets 'em every time!!
They now want Arlo CDs!

My younger brother would normally spend his time listening to Rob Zombie. He also recently attended a worldwide gathering of Goth fans in Germany.

That said, he's also come to see Arlo with me, and will do so again anytime.

(Now, if ADG ever puts on a duet with Rob Zombie ... well ... my brother might just explode...)

Lets see... I began by dragging my oldest son Eric beginning when he was 10 months old... by the time he was 10 years old he promised NEVER to go to an Arlo show (he was "Arlo'd out")... at 19 I dragged him to a show in NC and he promised he'd GO with me again! So far, he's been to Ocean City NJ, Harrisburg PA and... The Church!!!! But he hasn't bought a single CD yet.

I dragged my sister from the time she was 16... she's been to at least 10 shows since the 70s, including the Lancaster PA show this past April. She hasn't bought a single CD either

Then there's my step-mom. She finally got to an Arlo show last summer in Ocean City NJ. She also loved the music but she hasn't bought a CD (she doesn't spend money on anything, tho).

Then of course, there's my husband. As Arlo says, I'm Lance's ticket to sainthood when it comes to going to Arlo shows. My youngest son, Michael, has seen Arlo inumerable times... at festivals, Glenside PA and The Church many times. But he's only 11 so he doesn't buy CDs. He does ask me to play Arlo CDs in the car, tho!

It would be no problem getting my 8 year old son to go but I would have to duct tape my husband's hand and legs together and drag him. What I hate is that we go through this for every concert I take him to. Once we are there I can tell that he's actually enjoing himself. Not that he will admit it.

So far there has been only one concert I couldn't get him to go to. Last year for my birthday he bought a friend of mine a ticket to go see Pink Martini with me. I'm not gonna let him get away with that again! Next time Arlo makes it round to the Dallas area He is going!!! I'm stocking up on the duct tape as we speak!

My son is always excited when he hears me playing one of Arlo's cd. The other day we were at Target eating pizza and I had my cd player with me. I pulled it out but only had my traditional headphones with me. He wanted to hear The Motorcycle Song so we shared those headphones. My husband was laughing at us as we sat there with our heads together and one set of headphones stretched across both of our heads!

I love that I can share Arlo's music with him!

I've gotten my brother and sister-in-law to go to Arlo shows 2 or 3 times, but have never managed to get them to stick around afterwards and meet the man. I took my sister to see him at Newport years ago. I asked my parents if they wanted to go a few years ago when Arlo was playing 20 minutes away from their house on my birthday, but their response was "Oh, no. You just go and have fun with your friends." But my Mom really surprised me about 5 years ago, when she asked me to buy her a copy of "Mooses Come Walking" at Carnegie. She said it was because like the mooses, she is over the hill. I had Arlo sign it. When I gave it to her the next morning and showed her his autograph, she giggled like a 13 year old girl with a crush. I'd never seen her like that! And to think, when I first started going to Arlo shows, and would come home and show her pictures that I'd taken, all she ever used to say was "Look at that hair!"

My son always gets this funny little smile on his face when he's over and I'm listening to an Arlo CD, which means he likes it.

Mike my darling hubby has been with me to every Arlo show I've been to. He's my concert buddy. He claims he got me into Arlo cuz I asked him if Alices was a good movei when I saw it in a vidceo store & decided to rent it. Actually I was the one who got him into Arlo after the renting the movie in 88 & becoming an Arlo fan.

I took my mom (Dad stayed home that time) to an Arlo concert & she met him & now knows why I am the way I am. I took my folks with us to a Gaithersburg, MD Craft Fair show of his once. My dad claims he met Arlo while he was walking around. How I would've loved to have seen that. My folks went with us to a show of his in Baltimore but they waited in the car cuz they didn't want to go to the show. It was mothers day & I wanted to spend Mothers day with my folks as I always do so rather than miss being with them cuz of seeing Arlo we brought them along. My mom insisted on driving. Why the place would have him come on mothers day I dunno. But it all worked out.

We've taken Mikes sister & our niece Ava with us to a few of his shows in OH & they enjoyed going. Our nephew Eric went to one of the shows with us. & Our nephew Joe & his ex-wife met us at another show. Most of the times other folks don't wanna go with us. No prob. Mike & I have fun ourselves. It's our one big splurge.

I've gone to as many Arlo gigs as humanly possible... Well for Rb. I've always owned CDs ( well in early days they were called Albums... or L.P.'s) Then I got into Cassette tapes..... I bought the 25th Anniversary series, with carrying case and all...

Before I ever dragged anyone to a show, I had them well versed in the music..... & I would ususally get the complaints, like, " why isn't he singing 'Alices Rest' or the Motor Cylce song.... And what ever happened to 'Ring Around the Rosey Rag'...... They sometimes came out dissapointed, and AG doesn't always hang around for a meet and greet..... more dissapointements.

My kids detest Arlo's Music ( as my wife ).... ( well my oldest boy humors me, as does Sue) but they all love the man!!!!

And My friend Dick who I literally dragged to a show, was flabberghasted, and couldn't of been more happy, as he was just 18 ( rob was 34) and no advertizeing involved, but the orginal Xavier was the back up band.... There was no Alice, but my young friend was enthralled by the storys's, and loved the thought of . Pete seeger getting dangerous with a banjo, and the drinking German Beer for 3 solid days was right up Dick's alley... He walked out with an interview, and one of Richie Havens broken guitar strings.

Dick went on to college and majored in music... he took up playing keyboards, but has recently picked up his guitar, and is in a local band, playing parties, and bars, and just enjoying the music.... Arlo Guthrie ( and Abe and crew) had a huge impact on his musical career.... It was his first real concert, we had front row center, and he talked about it for days. In fact his Mom cuts out anything Arlo related ( New york times ect) ands sends it to me, snail mail right to this day.....

My best high school Aussie friend, Heather, was the first one of us to buy the Alice's L.P. in '69 when we were 15, but she died in '74 so sadly I never got to go to an Arlo gig with her.

Then 2 years ago, when Arlo was down here,I got in trouble for NOT taking my older sis to the concert, to which I took my brother. Hey I didn't think she was a fan. She says she was the one to introduce me to Alice's when she came over here after she finished College in Ore in '67. (We had already been listening to Woody since birth in the background of our life since we grew up in Ore, the Columbia River songs and This Land.) She did bring back lots of great albums, Mamas & Papas, Jefferson Airplane, Hendrix Etc (I don't recall seeing Alice's amongst them to this day)....but it was was on Heather's turntable that Alice's was first spun in my presence, and my radical antiwar blood had started pumping through my veins (even in my teeth!)
