Wahooo!! I go to Silver Spring every week for fiddle lessons; it's a good place for a new venue! Easy to get to, not far from the beltway!

Many Marylanders have been finding it increasingly difficult to get to the Alexandria Birchmere as often as they would like on week nights because of rush hour traffic combined with work and home obligations and long work commutes. The downtown SS area has made an impressive turn-around in the past few years. We're starting to get used to celebrities out on our streets like Clint Eastwood, Martin Scorsese, and Wynton Marsalis who performed at SS's second jazz festival in 2005.

The jazz festival had been scheduled before Katrina with Wynton as the major star. Wynton was so supportive of our festival that he still came even though it occurred shortly after Katrina. The attendance was huge and collection buckets were passed around to collect donations for those that had been in Katrina's path.
The second photo is Wynton playing St. James Infirmary and you can see the anguish in his face thinking about what had just happened to New Orleans.

Wow, had no idea about all that going on in Silver Springs. Last time I was there was in the 90's when I went with my folks to my Uncle Joes funeral. He lived in the Silver Springs area. Yeah, the congestion is a problem so we try to leave in enough time to get there before rush hr if we can...

Thanks for the info. No offence to the Maryland folks but I hope he comes to the Va side more often as the Maryland traffic is so bad & the Va side is easier to access. Well if he comes there we'll have to go traffic or not lol. We'll take him wherever he goes...

Nooo...people in the MD/DC area just THINK the traffic is bad...we lived in the Los Angeles area for 8 years, and that's BAD traffic! At least it moves here...the 405 is a six lane parking lot!

Sounds like the traffic in LA is worse. I've never been there except to chance planes enroute to Hawaii & only got to see the airport. Makes me feel better about the DC traffic lol...
