When I heard Ragtime piano coming from a hippy-tailored comedian, I was hooked; I was a teen and thought I was alone with my love for music from my grandparents' era. Then I heard him play other instruments...I would be a fan for life. His humour is only overshadowed by his musical talent. I was ill to learn that he had played in the DFW area recently and I didn't hear about it until the day after!

That was the story of my life from 1970 through 1974! Glad to say I've more than made up for lost time. Welcome to ArloNet!

Arlo caught my attention over forty yers ag not with Alice's Restaurant and the Motorcycle song, he did it with Chilling of the Evening, for some reason thst song sends chills up my spine and I find it to be one of those songs that will stay with me forever. I was so glad he opened with it in his tour this year.
I also love the way he respected those before him , like Pete Seeger, his dad and several others who have made America proud.

Susan, it was Chilling of the Evening that did it for me too I've been hooked ever since.

That boy caught my attention when he was the only one to note at Woodstock that the NYS Thruway was closed, man. What a cutie pie he was, is.



We took a student to see the flick Woodstock. 09/09 I will have been in the edjukation biz for 40 years.

My dad bought me the Alice's restaurant record in 1977, I was 8, then he took me to see Arlo and Pete in concert. I have been a fan of both ever since.

Next year I am going to take my 8 and 6 year old to an Arlo concert. They cant wait. They really like the motorcycle song.

I somehow always think of my first 'real' girlfriend, and Guthrie's music. Her sister would come home wk ends from college, and Martha would steal all ( well most all ) her L.P.'s and she had allot of Arlo.... We'd listen to it. ect...

Yeah, guess ya could say "Chillin in the evening' a code word for sex. We were ahead of our time!!!!

But I was only 12. I guess it was when her Mother dragged us to a concert, and all the college kids, were yelling, "Play Alice's Restaurant" and the folksinger, yiked back " Go out in the lobby and buy the record "!!!

I then, as now, will always have a fasination & yearning, for anyone, with an inkling of rebellion... & I thought " yeah I like this guy "


It made such perfect sence. " Like go listen to the record dude, we're playing some new material here... My friend Billy still remembers that, as he was one of the ones, bummed, the song wasn't played...

Damn I had heard it enough, I could hear it playin, in my head. Without the stereo on... always LOVED, Side B to that record... Always will..

Not dishin Alices or nuthin. ( Get a girlfriend (boyfriend ) that plays it everyday, for a season, and you'll know what I mean...

But, oh, what fond memorys I have. That Gal, was surely a gal I left behind me...

I don't think I ever shared this before...

My first husband and I met when I was 14. In school, the teacher deliberately sat us next to eachother, because he didnt speak or understand English (hardly at all) I spoke his language a bit - and understood it very well.

Just about that time, "Alice" came out. Ex#1 loved American music & The Pickle song was something that for some reason, he/we played over and over for him to practice English. Almost scary huh?

Well, Arlo has said they've studied that song in colleges and universities across the country......
