Legend has it........I think.........that if the folkslinger wakes up and sees his shadow, we get more winter until at least groundhogs day......or something.

Is the opposite of insomnia, prosomnia? I think I may have that. Maybe "hypersomnia" or "supersomnia" would be more like it!

I was told that Rolling Stones' drummer, Charlie Watts, was asked in an interview what he did in his spare time.
"Sleep!" he supposedly said.
Then he was asked if he had any hobbies.
"Sleepin'!"

Try doing something boring, Arlo. Watch the "Home Shopping Network" for awhile (not if that hollerin' guy with the beard is on, though). Mass quantities of mead work, too! Or reading my posts. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Will someone explain to the me the significance of the 10th of January? I know the song... what prompted the song and the vision that Arlo had that resulted in the song?

All I've heard from Arlo is that he wrote it in his sleep......someone was singing that song in his dream, and when he woke up he wasn't sure if it was him singing the song or not. But he figured, "What the hell, it's my dream!"

I can't get no sleep...

Arlo does say he dreamed the song, and I don't know, but there WAS a lot of vision prompting going around in the 60s ...

And self-abuse is a recipe for lost confidence on a first date. So maybe spamming us is not the way to join the group.

If Arlo was playing before he went to sleep and possibly jamming', it's not unlikely a song came to him in a dream. Anyone who is a late night jammer can tell you that the sounds keep playing in the mind's ear for hours after a long jam. It isn't memory because it will generate new sounds and melodies, progressions, and so on, particularly as the brain drops into REM. It's very powerful after a jam because the ears and fingers are on full alert and that state of receptive listening carries over into the internal states of sleep using snippets of whatever was being played. IME, it's very noticeable after a night of jazz because of the amount of improvising and heightened listening.

With meditation exercises that keep the ego quiet and enable awareness, one can capture some of that and for that reason, many songwriters and composers keep a notebook or a tape recorder close to the bed. See Keith Richards and "Satisfaction". Same story. See Paul McCartney and "Scrambled Eggs" aka, "Yesterday". Same story.

I've done it myself just not that spectacularly.

you know, I just re-read the introduction to this forum, Arlo's Restaurant, and it says that the folksinger himself might even answer. And it occurred to me that it should say "but only if he remembers."

I've dreamed songs in my sleep before. I even had Arlo doing a few lol...
