I was wondering if anyone could help me out with two things.

First: I saw on Arlo's schedule that there is a concert? on May 3rd to honor Pete's 90th birthday. I've tried to get information about tickets and have gotten no where. I was wondering if anyone had any info.

Second: I'm teaching a US History class and would like to show a video of Arlo singing Alice's Restaurant. I can't access Youtube from school, it's blocked. So are the rest of the video websites that I've tried. Does anyone have a DVD of this? I have audio recordings but I would like to show them a performance.

Any help with either question would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Lee

I believe that for a U.S. History class, I'd show them the entire "Alice's Restaurant" movie DVD........it contains a lot of information about U.S. History, and the movie isn't really all that much longer than the song......

Lee -- On #1, I've also been trying to find info with no real luck yet. According to one Poughkeepsie Journal article, this is being planned as a benefit for Clearwater, so I'm keeping an eye on their site for info (http://www.clearwater.org); the Madison Square Garden website does not show the concert yet, but it shows nothing for May 3, so I don't think that means anything.

My hope is that dear Arlo or someone else more in the know will give us a heads' up when/if the plans firm up...

Eileen

No, but it's a lot more boring. Did the whole class deserve detntion or what?

Lee,
Get in touch with Jackie, she is Arlo's videographer. Pick a decade...she has it.

They're sophomores. If I showed them a movie with people smoking pot and hitchhiking, their parents would have a fit. I think they would enjoy the song though. I know I would! :)

Here goes. To download videos from Youtube try this program:

http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/products/dv ... wnload.htm

They also have where you can download the music from Youtube videos as MP3's so you'll want that program from them as well.

These are the programs I use to download music & videos from Youtube. Now I can watch them without being online or have rare 60's & 70's music you can find anywhere or bits from concerts etc.

To put the stuff on dvd. If your puter has when you can record on dvd & burn dvd's try Dvd Flick:

http://www.dvdflick.net/

This is what I use to burn stuff to dvd like Youtube videos or videos I have done with my moms digital camera (has sound to it) or my digital camera (which on the movie camera is a silent one with no sound).

Both of these are free and work well for me. I can't afford paid programs so I try to find good freeware ones, If you need to put the stuff on vhs to show the kids, use a dvd/vcr combo that records from dvd to vhs & vice versa. Good luck.

Latest info I've seen on the concert:

www.backstreets.com/news:

SEEGER'S 90th BIRTHDAY TO BRING BRUCE TO NYC
Pete Seeger will turn 90 on May 3, and to celebrate, a massive tribute concert is being planned for that night at Madison Square Garden. And while the WOAD tour won't be bringing Bruce to The World's Most Famous Arena, it looks like this birthday bash will. The beneficiary will be Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, an organization founded by Seeger in the '60s, which now reports that Bruce Springsteen is confirmed as a performer at the May 3 event. Also on the bill: Bob Dylan, Steve Earle, Emmylou Harris, John Mellencamp, Eddie Vedder and more. No official announcement yet, but we expect one shortly, with tickets likely on sale this weekend. Stay tuned.

Cheryl,

Thank you for the info, I'm going to try it tonight.

Eileen,

Thanks for the concert info. I almost wish it wasn't posted on Springsteen's site. It's going to be difficult for Pete's fans to get tickets especially after the mess with Ticketmster recently.

Cheryl,

It worked like a charm! Thank you so much!! I've been spending hours trying to find sites that the school wouldn't block. I'm so happy that I can play Alice and other videos for my classes now. They'll be happy that they don't have to listen to me all period.

sounds real nice, and considering it is a benefit performance, it's likely going to be a high priced ticket to start, just for the nose bleeds...
