Working on my 3D scene this weekend, I decided to add a corner for the Folkslinger. The YouTube is of In Times Like These and the Flickr panel is from his RSS feed. I can add more videos and add an audio object. I did have St James Infirmary there but I'm unsure if using my legal copy to put a copy even of my own in my world is koscher. OTOH, given the concerts are freely distributed, I can stream those AFAIK.

It's inside the Vivaty worlds accessible from Facebook. It's a fun project and a free way to put all my musical/video content in one place. I built the corner for Arlo and the Burns Sisters for fun and because I like to sit and jam with the songs as a break now and then.

Hosting 3D other than plain VRML/X3D requires a server. I keep a spot at my ISP for the VRML/X3D work for those who will download the BitManagement Contact VRML/X3D browser. OTW, the vids of sequences are the easiest way to share but they are not nearly as rich or fun as the 3D.

A virtual Guthrie Center could be fun, but if there is no interest in it by the folks who run it, it would be rude to go any further with the idea. To do it well requires measurements, photos, etc., and that is onsite work so cooperation is necessary. It could be done badly from available photos on the web, but again, that would be rude.

I think Kyran's point is that your links don't work, so we haven't seen what you're trying to show us.
The "folks who run it" would be George Laye, the GC director, who's probably never seen your thread; he doesn't come here very often. I recommend calling him at 413.528.1955 to talk about it.

@ceashel: Which links would those be? A simple link won't enable access to a members site without the membership. IOW, to see this site, you'd need to get a vivaty membership either by going to http://www.vivaty.com or through your Facebook account. Once you have that, you can quickly make your own room and add videos and music to it. It's a drag and drop server-side system, not a modeling job with indexed face sets, textures, scripts, etc. The Guthrie Center is a modeling job and I'd use VRML/X3D for that to ensure a) it is an open IP-unencumbered technology b) survival of the models. 3D is notorious for the dead companies and those that didn't use the open standards wound up with dead content to boot. See Lively. It's a bit like the early days of recording in that respect.

Thanks for the contact information. Another regular informed me that George was the person to talk to and did forward an inquiry to him. I've not heard from him. Again, it would take some people on the ground to get information for the modelers. There are commercial vendors who would help out but again, this is a project that needs support on the Guthrie Center side. I know the 3D people and have informally chatted with some who looked into the Center and liked the idea.

I'm looking around and realizing the links to the vids are dieing. While not as much fun as exploring a true 3D world, the YouTube videos show some of what these are about as machinima. Videos really don't do justice to a richly rendered 3D scene, but they are ok. This YouTube page has several of these done for IrishSpace and one for The River of Life "Walking Kamala".

A 3D world is explorable like a game and more can certainly be done than these videos. For something like the Guthrie Center, I can imagine modeling the building and it's interiors and just a bit of the surrounding terrain. Over time, it's possible to add avatars and other fun. Schedules can be posted, videos can be built in, and there can be other interactive fun.

It would be cool to have the 'slinger's doppelganger hosting there but boy howdy.

I was going to look at the two you mentioned, but then got distracted by an entirely different video and started to wonder: Can you build a world in which Serena and Arlo's wacky cousin Olra go on a date?

That's ok, but series are the thing. How about Arlo's long lost sister coming home to Mass lugging Santa Claus's love child and leaving her on the doorstep to be raised with better parenting than the elves could provide and to hide her from the ire of Mrs. Claus? Arlo has to raise her on the road and so their adventures begin....

The "Sam" video is a song I recorded and re-recorded on and off for about four years then made the video over a couple of months. A labor of love fer shure. Liz has fans all over the globe but weirdly enough, Uruguay is the download king for that one. Who knew....

I saw her first on the Untouchables, then the Twilight Zone. Liz stuck with me for years and years. I was watching the Biography of her one evening and decided to see if I could get into a song all the innocense of being out on the creek behind the house after Bewitched playing guitar and making up songs. An Israeli lady wrote to me and said, "A man reaches a certain age and needs a bit his innocense back" and that was right on.

I enjoy watching the Google download stats although having replaced the video twice, the numbers are actually quite a bit higher and don't include all of the downloads of the song off Bewitched.net that generate the email. She has a worldwide fan base that just keeps growing.
