So I was watching Alices Restaurant the other day, for the umpteenth time, and it occurred to me that something was missing from the movie. Unless I completely missed something, there was no appearance of Fasha the dog.

I'm just curious. Fasha was apparently important enough a part of the family that she (he?) was mentioned in the song. Why wasn't he / she (or a reasonable faccimile) in the movie?

What breed of dog was Fasha? Was he a pure breed or a mutt?

Are there any pictures anywhere in existence?

Just wondering,

- Filthy

My understanding is that the dog and his agent could not come to terms with the movie producers. The dog was looking for Lassie or Rin Tin Tin kinda money and they just wouldn't go for it.

Besides, I've spent a lot of time in and around the church, and I have never seen a fire hydrant within walking distance.

Now I have got to watch the movie again because I was pretty sure that the dog had come out with the judge and sat next to him at the bench. Not sure what kind of dog it was in the movie I just remember a dog that was black and white. :?

You're thinking of the blind judge's seeing eye dog which was a German Shepherd.

You could be right about that but every lyric search I've done shows it as Fasha.

.... hi everybody ... I jsut found this site and havent read too much yet, but as soon as I saw the site and realized there was a forum, I knew I had to sign up ... cos I wanted to, I mean. I like dogs a whole lot, so I think its apropriate my first post should be in a thread about a dog ...

I had a look at the movie again today, and it seems to be right, that Fasha/ Faccia / Fatcha dose not appear in the movie, or not in an identified way, as the character of Faccia the Dog, I mean ... there is a german shepherd as mentioned above of course, representing American Blind Justice, and there is also a (one, or more than one, Im not sure) american hound dog, just like in COOL HAND LUKE, in the scene where the cops are investigating the (quote/unquote) "scene of the crime" ... I beleive that was for the dog smelling prints ... so as far as I can tell, that's a grand total of two dogs that I could see, and none of them was Faccia (as far as I know) ... witch leaves the question (s) from the original post unanswered, of course ... but I jsut thought talking about dogs would be a good way for me to start out here, since as I mentioned, I like 'em ... dogs are good people. :)

Welcome AllAmericanKid!!! Apparently Faccia was not available for the filming......might have been in doggie rehab or something related to that kool-aid incident. But the song tells us that "Alice didn't live at the restaurant, she lived in the bell tower of the church with her husband Ray and Faccia the dog"......so clearly the dog was around somewhere. Maybe we ought to look at the "Thanksgiving dinner that couldn't be beat" scene more carefully, and check out the dishes on the feast table more carefully......

Buona Sera, Signore Guthrie. In inglese, Faccia sarebbe ortografato lo stessi.
In other words, spelled the same whether you are in Italia or Massachusetts.
Fatcha would be phonetic.
Sorry--that was my moment of geek.
