A local theater here in the DC area had a show tonight, "An Evening of Shakespeare in Klingon," at which one of the "creators" of the Klingon language, Marc Okrand, spoke.

He said that Alice has been translated into Klingon.

Has anyone ever heard it performed?

Yeah, me too. Found nothing by googling around, other than a couple of references to it.

So, armed with your interest, Mr. Guthrie, I've sent an email to the theater company asking them to ask Mr. Okrand (who is President of their Board) to email me or stop by the forums here if he'd rather do that. (I couldn't find an email for him.) Will post more if I hear more.

We'd like to hear it too! Maybe Arlo can do it in concert sometimes once they get the version to him. :)

Yeah, but in the Klingon version, the hero eats the gargage, cuts Obie in half.......and eats him too, bringing more reality to the "veins in my teeth" line. Not to mention "Kill, Kill, Kill!".
Yup, the Klingons take a whole other message and lesson from this classic than most of us earthlings.

And we've seen those Klingon girls too! Alice wouldn't be so nice this time around, and you could never get anything you wanted - or maybe you could! Hahahaha

I wonder if littering and creating a nuisance are even crimes for Klingons?

I dread the Klingon orchestration.... Klingon opera is notorious throughout the Federation.

Or the folk version

And it's not really good for picking up earth women even if you're a hologram and she's a declawed Borg

But it's perfect for head butt drinking

The universal translator cannot approximate devious terran lyrics:

SoH ta'laHbe' tlhap [a] Doch SoH neH Daq [Alice's] [Restaurant]
yIt nIH Daq [it's] [around] [the] DoH
[Just] [a] bID [a] [mile] vo' [the] [railroad] [track]

But some have their soft sides too when they are off duty.

No news on the Alice front, sadly. I dunno, Arlo, maybe you'd have better luck getting the info if you called Okrand or something -- he works at the National Captioning Institute and their number is 703-917-7600 . He probably gets too many strange inquiries from flaky fans like me . . . I could kick myself now for not asking about it at the time, but he was doing Q&A with George Takei and I felt like it'd be weird to sidetrack the discussion from Shax and ST to Alice. Oh well...

But, back to the opera subthread started by Len...the Klingon opera "u" premiered at The Hague a few weeks ago:

http://www.u-theopera.org/

and this NPR piece on it also includes what I guess is Okrand's standard line about Alice:
