I saw on Wolf Trap's calendar that Arlo will be there with the NSO in August, so it's an orchestra show. Looks like they've got a group called Time for Three, a string trio, opening for him. I hope this time they told Arlo they've got someone opening for him and he's not finding out about it here!

I did look them up; they're good. I still don't understand Wolf Trap's penchant for pairing performers on the same evening.

I remember the show years ago where they paired Arlo with Art Garfunkle. After Arlo played, the audience got up and left...everyone was there to see Arlo. It was HIS crowd. Artie had maybe (I'm being generous here) 20% of the audience left for his performance, and with the size of the Filene center, the house looked really empty. You probably could have fit the remaining audience in ten rows of house seats. Partway through his performance, this blonde scary-haired woman came out and danced to Art's singing (I never thought of his stuff as danceable) and proceeded to dance and shimmy and shake her way through the rest of the performance. Distracting. Wierd and surreal. (I know Jim and I were both thinking, "what the hell??") Later, we found out that wasn't just a dancer, it was his wife.

I remember that show! I think we stayed (up on the paved area by the gate) for like one or two of Art's songs and then decided to leave. I think we were shocked to find out that Arlo wasn't the headliner...

I also remember seeing John Lee Hooker play there. I think Albert Collins opened for him. After Albert was done, the house sprinkler system came on and no one could shut it off because of the way it was set up (on a timer I think). I always joked that Albert's playing was so hot he set off the sprinklers! Hooker was amazing as usual. Sometimes the pairing does work...

Also, a few years ago Richie Havens and Arlo was a very nice pairing!

Yeah, Richie Havens and Arlo was a great pairing, and that was a wonderful concert. At least it made sense (Woodstock musicians). Arlo and Art didn't make much sense, (well, their names both begin with an "A"!) and the booking people at Wolf Trap certainly didn't realize the "opener" had a much bigger draw than the "headliner".

I don't think Art has been invited back since then. Just sayin'....!

I was at AG-AG, too (you see, it's not just the first initial -- also, both were, at points in their lives, paired with a "PS", so they did have something in common!?) and actually stayed till the end or close to it, because that's how I am and I didn't want to pre-judge. I really hated it. Really really really really. But it was one of those things that was...so awful...that I just couldn't take my eyes off it and leave. I thought more of the audience stayed than 20%, but possibly they were all just sitting near me...I don't remember his wife dancing, but I do remember him bringing out his daughter, who was little and probably I would have thought she was cute if she wasn't with him...but it was all so plasticky and artificial I wanted to tear my hair out.

I missed Arlo and Richie Havens, unfortunately -- was out of town for that. I'd love to see that one.

Just wanted to say that I am a huge fan of Time For Three. I first saw them last year when they played with the Boston Pops Orchestra before Arlo came on. I was not sure why classically trained young men were playing alone when the whole orchestra was in the house, but I listened. It then took an odd turn, and I saw what they were up to. They are a classically trained "garage band." Their wizardry on the pieces was wonderful and there are some audios on YouTube, but mostly you need to see them to get it. They did do a piece by Chris Brubeck and he was there, too in the audience. It was an amazing and unexpected part of the show. At the merch table they cheerfully chatted with everyone and almost seemed overwhelmed by the love from the crowd. I have 2 CD's of T43 and it brought the evening to a whole, new level. I hope you enjoy them half as much as I did! They were produced alone and Arlo didn't play with them, but it was refreshing to see these funny guys who obviously loved what they were doing!

I was at the Arlo Ritchie Havens show and it was a good one. I missed the Arlo/Art Gurfunkle one cuz that's when Mike got diagnosed with diabetes and being legally blind from it when we were visiting his sister in Ohio and a short trip ended up being 6 months tille he got better.

I would love to go to the Wolftrap show this summer and the Birchmere too but with Mike having passed, I have no one to go with me. It's too far for me drive all the way to DC area alone. And get lost lol. Bummer! At least I get to go to the 2 Hampton shows...

Eileen, that wasn't Art Garfunkle's daughter, it was his then-six-year old son James. I thought they looked a lot alike...they have the same hair!

After I read this, I started wondering about Art G and James, so I went to Wikipedia and it was really interesting -- not so much about the family (he's still married to the same woman and James is now 21) -- but about one of his hobbies:

From 1983 to 1997, Garfunkel walked across America, taking 40 excursions to complete the route from New York City to the Pacific coast of Washington.
