My wife and I went to your Eugene appearance. You did not do much of your own material and not even one verse of the one song that everyone thinks of when the name Arlo Guthrie is mentioned. I did not need the whole 18 minutes, but a quick turn around the refrain would have been nice. You called for a movement when you first played that song and you got one. When you are the leader of a movement you have a responsibility to encourage the people that carry that movement forward.

That said, I loved your stories and your songs and the tribute to Woody was nice.

Welcome to the site. He doesn't do the song often but if you go to enough shows, eventually you will get to hear it.

Two things , 1) Arlo has said himself he only does that song on "Anniversaries'" any more. 2) this tour was always billed as a tribute to Woody's 100th birthday ,still I believe it must have been a great show.

I hope I don't come off too harsh here. If I do let me say now that I don't mean to. I hope you can start to see the bigger tapestry instead of one thread in it.

It seems to me that the Alices' Restaurant Anti Massacre Movement was about trying to get people to think. Think about stupid stuff that happens in this world and not just going thru the motions. Or doing what people always did before with out thinking or applying reason. Making fun of that. But poets and satirists vs movement leaders are two very different things.

Anyone paying attention at the show could not have gotten a more intimate view of and personal connection with Arlo. He spoke of coming home last fall to spend the remainging days left with his dying wife, Jackie this past October. About how he met her at the rodeo when he was 18 and staying with Ramblin Jack Elliot in Cali? She was riding in the rodeo and he fell in love? Wrote a song for her the next day, Highway In The Wind? A love that slowly blossomed and lasted 43 years of marriage?

As for me, when that song ended I yelled YEAH JACKIE!

I hope you didn't miss all that just because you were waiting to hear a song about something that happened long ago, versus the story about what happened in the last 6 months. Something that is way more real than all that other stuff?

Nostalgia has its place, for sure. But if you could back up the tape in your mind and give yourself a do-over, maybe you'd see what a great show it was!

Interesting that Arlo "opened up" more about Jackie for this concert as I was surprised that he didn't mention her passing at all at the 2/1 concert I attended in Lakeland, FL. Perhaps "too soon" then?
