Hi Arlo! I was watching the Alice's Restaurant movie today, and I saw Lee Hays singing amazing grace in it. I was curious how that scene came to be? I know The Weavers were an influence for you, but was just curious about the story of how Lee was in the movie? I'm a big fan of yours and Lee.

I'm not sure, but the writers, Venable Herndon and Arthur Penn must've contacted Lee at some point to see if he would be interested in being in the movie. Also, Harold Leventhal was one of the producers, and Harold may have orchestrated Lee's involvement - Same goes for Pete Seeger. At any rate the scene was created by them, as it wasn't a part of my own personal history. I loved Lee a lot! :)
