I do not know Jimmie Wallet, but I feel really bad for this guy. I read he is also a musician...perhaps even a Arlo fan? He had a sign hung above his house door stating "Music Is Love"

"LA CONCHITA, Calif. — Jimmie Wallet went out for ice cream,
and when he got back, everyone and everything he had left behind were
gone.
On Wednesday, he identified the bodies of his wife and three of his
daughters, pulled from a tangle of homes smashed by a mudslide
No one lost more than Wallet in Monday's mudslide, which has killed at
least 10 people in this oceanside community. And, driven by the
frantic hope of finding his family, no one was as quick to claw
through the debris and help pull out survivors.
Wallet dug for hours in the rain around where he thought the family
might be. He helped rescue two people before he stopped and waited,
smoking cigarettes as friends stopped by to embrace him. Early
Wednesday, after 36 hours, his wait ended.
His wife, Mechelle, was the first to be found. Around 2 a.m.,
firefighters and several of Wallet's friends carried her to the
makeshift morgue at the town's gas station. Wallet went in and
identified her, then returned to the porch of a peach stucco house
where he had been staying, put up his feet and sat without a word.
Two hours later, his youngest daughter, 2-year-old Paloma, was taken
out on a stretcher. Her sister Raven, 6, was next, soon followed by
10-year-old Hannah.
The three girls were found next to each other, apparently sitting on a
couch when the slide broke apart their house, pushing it for about 100
yards and covering it in muck.
"They never had a chance to get out," said Scott Hall, a battalion
chief with Ventura County Fire Department."

There is a fund set up for those wishing to donate;
Washington Mutual
c/o Jessica or Jennifer
3498 Telegraph Road
Ventura, Ca 93003
Make checkspayable to "The Wallet Family"

Thank you.

Rana Fina I have followed that story, and what a sad one indeed. Tx for posting. I pray you don't find me rude, as I continue the tradition of being off topic....

I just couldn't help but share how nauseated I feel knowing that Bush is being officially inaugurated as our Prez for the next 4 yrs.

It reminds me of my youth, and being embarrassed as an old Hippy proffesor boldly told me I was destroying the Kings english, as my adjectives were badly missplaced. NTM all the slang. He was right! (I went to great lenghts to improve it) It was around that time, that I realized that my Dad actually was a very sencible type of guy. HE HATED the elder Bush and despised his son as well!!! (altho my Dad and I have dissagreed over the yrs. e.p. he voted for George Wallace) But it's interesting to hear my Dad (82 yrs of age) rant and rave about GI's having ONLY $12,000. in life insurance, and the fact that the injured don't have free phone calls...

I personnally think it a dissgrace, that George can throw a 60 million dollar bash, but yet some soldiers have to rely on charity to make a phone call home..

It's my belief that somday he will go slowly insane....e.p. Lyndon Johnson

Hopefully in 09 we'll have more peace in the world. I'd turn this thing off, but Chris Matthews is mostly making an ass of himself, and it's just too funny to watch..... I'll listen to the speech. But I'm thinking I should go down cellar and get my hip waders, as I'm quite sure the shit will run deep!!

PEACE/Rb

Right on Rita! With Don Imus doing his show on site, the interview with Cheney was 'not bad'. The Iman had no problem stating he was outta there right after the show. He said they couldn't get him back to New York quick enough. Cheney busting his balls about Iman losing $20,000.00 on a bet Bush would lose the election. Cheney's wife gave Don Imus a bag of pork chops as a departing gift.

You can bet if Sen Kerry woulda won. The Iman crew would of stayed and partied.... I bet Dave Downin Bush would NEVER be a two time Prez and lost. good thing for Daves bad memory...lol

This is a follow up story about the mudslide and life style of La Conchita residents. Sounds very 1960's very "Alice's Restaurant"
