Sorry, but this posted before I was done writing. The finished post follows below…

So when is Arlo gonna play a show around Athens Ohio? The Blue Gator is a good place in town for him, especially since he never seems to play in Appalachia or the Midwest. Maybe Charlestown or Huntington WV? Columbus OH? How about any of these old coal mining towns around here like Eclipse? Hell, I'd even drive 4 hours to see him in Cleveland or Akron. We are in the middle of original Bluegrass country, and it only seems fitting. I would kill to see a show with Dr. Ralph Stanley and Arlo Guthrie together. Sweeet!

Maybe he could play a private show for my MFA reception, since 'Angry Johnny and the Killbillies' from Easthampton MA are too busy and I can't get a hold of 'Appalachian Death Ride' from Athens OH. Invitation only, to play an acoustic show at the 'Ridges Insane Asylum' where I have my painting studio in Building 13. Probably less than 20 folks in attendance at an old mental hospital, with bars on the windows. Ever done that before?!

I haven't seen him since I lived in Chester MA back in the early 1990's and got the chance to see him and his sons' band at Tanglewood about 1992. But his sons' band did rock when they played a benefit for the Veterans at the roadhouse in Becket back in like 1988 or so. I still have the t-shirt which is too small for me now. And I also admit that in 1991 me and my best friend Greg took a drive around and visited Alice's restaurant, the Church, the dump, and his place near Pittsfield. I won't name the town, but it was off Rt. 8 and as far as I remember there was a sign on the road (that me and Greg stole, sorry) about a dead cow being a 1/8th mile up the road. A few months later I was looking for used cars for sale, and when I found one the only cop in town just said “maybe it’s that Arlo Guthrie guy who’s selling it, he lives up that dirt about a half mile“. Me and my friend Ron drove up the road and only found a really cool looking house and an old tour bus. We were too chicken to knock on the door and just left. Maybe I should have knocked and bought a used car from Arlo Guthrie!

So Arlo, please come and play at my MFA Painting closing reception show on Friday May 13th, 2005 at Ohio University in Athens Ohio. There will be fried pickles and elephant ears and Pabst Blue Ribbon and good paintings concerning nostalgia and home. What's it worth to ya'll? Can you hook up a good ole boy from the Berkshires who has done good and gone from dirt poor to having 2 Masters degrees and hopefully teaching art in college or even high school art in the Berkshires next year? Maybe we could donate the proceeds to some rural high schools art program... No matter what happens, I would love to have you play at my reception. I haven’t seen you since about 1992, and to have you play at my reception would knock the socks off everyone and make me a very happy boy (man). So what are you doing next May on Friday the 13th? Can you make it to Appalachia?

Welcome to the site & good luck in getting Arlo to play at your event. I think he came to Akron last yr or the yr before. Usually when he comes to OH it's in the colder weather months & not in the summer when we could plan our annual trip to visit Mikes sister in Columbus around it...

Friday the 13th, eh. Thought that rang a bell.

Arlo will be in Wilmington, Delaware, with David Bromberg . . .

Sorry about that.
