I e-mailed the Psychologists Convention in DC to see if folks can go & just see Arlo only without having to go to the whole convention. No answer so I called a lady there to find out. She seemed nice & said she'd try to find out & call me back in a coupla weeks. She said tho she'd need to find out how many folks want to go to the Arlo show there so they'd know. I told her I could ask on here & find out.

So I need to find out who wants to go see the Arlo show at the Psychologists Convention in DC so I can tell the lady when she calls me back. If you want to go see him there, just post on here & let me know. I assume, Sue, Agnes & Don will want to go & the Wizard too. That's 6 so far including Mike & I.

Sadly tho today I got an e-mail back from another lady at the Psychologists Convention in DC in response to my e-mail to them.
She said: "Since Mr. Guthrie is part of the convention, you will have to register for the convention, even though you are only coming to see him. We have no one-day fees, therefore, for a nonmember, the fee is $245."

Yikes! I sure can't afford $245 to see an Arlo show. So I bet the lady when she calls back tells me she found out the only way you can go see him there is to pay the $245 to go to the whole entire convention. Yuck! I'll let you guys know what she's tell me when she calls.

This is so sad cuz those who really want to see him can't afford to pay $245 to see him. Woody would be so upset about that I think. I guess pyschologists must be rich lol... If anyone would like to donate so we can afford to go lol...

Look at the bright side:

Those who can afford to pay the $245 will be able to write it off their taxes.

Can't imagine anything worse or more boring than a Psychologist's Convention. Is Arlo going as some kind of an exhibit, i.e., "This is your brain in the 60's" vs. "This is your brain as an aging hippie"?

Well. I have to jump in here. A am a member of the APA and believe me, I am FAR from rich!! This is a group of SCHOOL psychologists and the $245 is the REGISTRATION fee for the convention, NOT the ticket fee to see Arlo! Most of the time (altho not always), the school district pays the registration fee. Arlo was just an ADDED BONUS for the convention. Sadly, I had made prior plans and won't be able to attend. Then when I heard Arlo was going to be there, I was REALLY pissed because I couldn't change my plans!! At these kind of conventions, they generally do not allow the general public in to see the show (altho I think they should!!) LOL

Lance has a degree in Applied Psych and I was actually considering asking him if his membership is up-to-date... then I thought better of it. Unless we can attend JUST Arlo's show, why bother? I don't think Lance would really want to go with me for an Anthropology convention, even if Clapton were the headline for the week. Then again, who knows? I'm gonna call him right now. Maybe Cheryl can get us a "reduced" ticket? Go for it, Cheryl!

As much as I enjoy Arlo's concerts, if it's not possible to go without registering and paying $245, I'll just have to enjoy the concert at the Birchmere the night before.
I've always had a bone to pick with a school psychologist...years ago, when my 26 year old son was 10 and in grade school and with ADHD affecting his work, one school psychologist spoke at an ILP meeting for twenty minutes about her findings about him, ("Mrs. Schier, your son is wierd"...) and didn't have ONE positive thing to say...and even if the kid drove you absolutely nuts (he was/is expert at figuring out what buttons to push to irritate people..it was easy to see he'd pissed her off) there is always SOMETHING nice to say. She didn't see anything good in him, and painted an extremely negative future for him. His teacher and I both agreed after the meeting that it was the psychologist that was bonkers. Kevin turned out okay in spite of her gloomy predictions.

Sue, it's good that you could see beyond the school psychologist's prognostications... there is good and bad in every walk of life, and it looks like that was one of the 'not so good' ones.

As for going to see Arlo at this kind of event... not me!!! I'd be really paranoid that the rest of the audience was watching and analyzing me more than they would be enjoying the show!

Sue, I have to laugh remembering all the times I had to deal with the school psychologists and my oldest, Eric, who some of you have met. So far, Eric's turned out ok.... it's the school psychs who are crazy!

Time for me to jump back into the fire!! I am NOT a school psychologist ... I am an Educational Diagnostician and belong to the APA because I do all the eduational testing FOR the psychologists. I am not qualifierd to give the IQ tests that they give. I, like many of you, know some rather weird psychologists. I don't really fit in with the 15 that I have to work with ... but they like me because I'm good at what I do (which makes them happy!!) I just come from a different set of perspectives -- oh well ... works for me!! I could go on but I better not ... seems like I opened up a BIG can of worms!! BLUNDERITES come in all shapes and sizes (and disguises!!)

They told me they'd never had a singer perform at their convention before. So I figure they had no idea that people who love the singer would want to go & cant afford to pay $245 to go to the convention. Too bad Cyndy can't go. It would probably be fun watching them psychoanalize Arlo lol. We'll let ya'll know how it turns out...

I mean it is kind of a shrink convention.....tell them you're a blunderite and volunteer to be a test subject and maybe they will let in in for free?

And after dealing with this group of fans, they probably won't ever again

Hey! My better half just started workin' at a shrink's office! Maybe she can go for a field trip & take me. DC's a haul, though & we'd have to find somebody to pig sit! I believe I read somewhere that psychiatrists have an abnormally high suicide rate among medical professionals (along with dentists! Go figure!), so I guess that they don't follow their own advice. My Psych II prof back in the '70's was pretty messed up (always complaining about his wife & kids while chain smoking cigarettes) & he wrote textbooks! Freud was pretty whacked, too! Hmmm....I think I'll stay home!
