Wondered if someone out there can help...

...I heard a version of Three is the Magic Number the other night. It sounded just like Arlo Guthrie so I was hoping somebody could confirm he's done it/covered it - I don't actually know who did the original version but this was beautiful - very mellow acoustic.

Any help/suggestions very much appreciated.

in case anyone is interested i found out the mystery artist is some fella called bob dorough. if anyone knows this guy i'd be interested to hear your thoughts - what's his other stuff like?

not sure what the score is but he sounded v like AG - almost to the point of impersonation.

I know that Bob Dorough performed the version of "Three is the Magic Number" that was on the old Schoolhouse Rock videos I watched in elementary school. I have some of the albums on my computer. He also performed a few other classics, including "My Hero, Zero" and a song called "Busy Prepositions". I never really thought he sounded like Arlo, but I can kind of hear the similarities.

I lived in a town located in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. I knew that Bob Dorough lived (or still does) in the town of Delaware Water Gap located at the beginning of the Pocono region. He also proformed (maybe still does) at the 'Deer Head Inn' in DWG. I did get to see him a few times. He was pretty cool!!

Every year there is a DWG Jazz Festival that he used to preform (maybe still does). It is held the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday after the Labor Day weekend. The Water Gap still is a hang-out place for Jazz and other musicians. It's really a cool town!!

I have been reading the post everyday for nearly two years now. I am also a member of 'The guthrie Center'. Looking for to posting more.

Well, Ned K -- I grew up in Easton, PA (about an hour from the Delaware Water Gap)! I used to go to the Jazz Festival EVERY year! IT was GREAT and always a LOT of fun!! Yes -- they STILL do it! It used to piss me off because, as a teacher, that was always the WORST possible weekend -- just gettting back to school from the summer and KNOWING what I SHOULD be spending the weekend doing -- school stuff for the new year. BUT!! The Water Gap festival always seemed to call my name and I always went anyay! I used to go the Deer Head quite often, too. What a wonderful place to just chill on a Saturday evening! Always some WONDERFUL music. I read the name -- Bob Dorough -- the other day and couldn't remember where I knew that name from. Thanks for sending me down Memory lane!! He was always fun!!

Now to answer the question about "Schoolhouse Rock"! Well, it was a large series of tapes that sang about English, Social Studies, Math (the times tables) and really helped the kids get into it. One of my favorites was "Conjunction Function, what's your function?" My own kids LOVED them. I even had Bob Dorough autograph a few! Those were the days, my friend!!

At the moment, I guess he did sound a bit like Arlo ...in a strange way!

YES I WAS!! Terrie and I (and others) had dinner before the show. Were you there, at dinner??? If so, another senior moment has hit me again!! I know Terrie was in the balcony and I was in the fourth row (I think!) in the center. That's when that guy proposed to his girlfriend before the show ... on stage!!

Yes we all had dinner before the show!! I gave out the peace bumper stickers 'Make Love Not War' & 'Back By Popular Demand' while we were waiting to speak with ARLO!!

Hi, I know this is way off topic, but I live in Phillipsburg and while I didn't have dinner with your group, I was at the State Theater. Are any of you planning to go to Battery Park in June?

Wouldn't miss it.

I've been looking on the Battery Park Website for more information about the concert such as the time and specific place but have had no luck. Does anyone have any info?
