I was very happy to find this site...it was not by accident since I was surfing Sarah's site and found the link here!!!!! Arlo was and still is very popular in OZ......I must've been 12 when I first saw Arlo on OZ TV!!! Great guy, great singer, great actor, great memories!!!!! I hope I enjoy myself here as I did way back when!!!!!!

I remember when ALICES & CONO came out & heard them on the radio back then & liked them. I used to see the ALICES album in stores alot. But I wasn't in love with him or anything & didn't give him much thought other than when I heard those songs on the radio. I remember when the ALICES movie came out but never go to see it. In 1988 we went into a local Blockbuster video store & were looking around. I saw the ALICES video of the movie & it looked like a good movie. I asked Mike if it was a good movei having remembered it & he said he saw it when it first came out & was pretty good. So we rented it & I fell for Arlo. He kept growing on me. Pretty soon I was addicted. Then in 1989 he did 2 shows here in VA the first at Wolftrap Park in Vienna, VA & the 2nd was a local show in Richmond, VA. I went to both shows, met him at both shows & got hooked even more. He also did a sho in VA Beach that fall We went to it. Ever since then whenever he does any shows here in VA or other nearby states like NC, MD, DC, WV we always go. When Arlonet first came out in 1995 I wanted to get on the internet & get on it but puters were too expensive. Finally in 1998 our local library got the internet & I could get online there & get Arlonet. I started going there once a week to chekc out Arlonet. Then later that yr or maybe 1990 my mom got her a new Win 98 puter & gave me her 486 Win 3.1 puter & I also got me a 486 laptop. I later won a Win 989 puter over the internet. So here I am!

I first saw Arlo when I was 12 years old, when I went to see the movie: Alice's Restaurant. I was immediately drawn to him. I can remember Arlo in his white underwear, jumping up and down, yelling "Kill...kill". That was bizarre, but that's part of Arlo's charm.
For so many years I didn't know what happened to Arlo, until I saw an article in a family magazine about Arlo, Jackie, and their children. Thanks to this website I can keep in touch with how they're doing.

Caron, can you give us any information on that magazine issue?

There was a nice article in "People" magazine, back around 1989 or so. There was a really cute photo of the whole family holding hands and walking down the hill, with their house behind them in the background. It may have been 'cos it was 20 years after Woodstock, so magazines were looking for Arlo. I've got a copy stashed somewhere......

The article from that 1989 PEOPLE magazine that Judy is referring to is titled "Despite The Shadow Of His Father's (And Possibly His Own) Deadly Disease, A Folk Hero Celebrates Life." The article is actually written by Arlo himself (though there is a five paragraph editorial preface to Arlo's thoughtful essay). There are a few nice photos in the article (Arlo w/Jackie, Woody, Arlo performing @ Tufts University in 1969, and the "family shot" on the hillside that Judy described earlier).

Actually, I think the PEOPLE magazine article mentioned above is from a 1987 issue, not from 1989. I’m afraid I don’t have the exact publication date of that issue as my “copy” was summarily torn from the pages of the magazine all those years ago, and on none of the surviving pages is there any date info supplied. But the article references the release of the “Alice’s Restaurant” album, beginning “Twenty years ago this month a long haired, floppy-hatted, second generation troubadour talked his way into the hearts and minds of America…” If “Alice” was released in September of 1967 and if the the folks at PEOPLE have their facts and figures straight, I’d guess that the article is from around September of 1987. Hopefully, Judy’s issue is still intact and has the info!

My copy should still be intact. I just have to find it. Don't hold your breath waiting for me to do that, though, 'cos I don't have a lot of free time right now. It's either in one of several rubbermaid boxes in one of my closets, or in the secretary desk. I don't exactly have an organized filing system for anything but my black and white concert negatives and some of my prints, and I don't have a scanner, so unless my boss would let me scan it at work, you'd have to settle for a xerox, Terrie. I'll try to hunt for it before the July church concerts.....or the October ones......I promise.

Well, it wasn't in the secretary desk. My guess is it's stashed away in the guest room closet. However, I did find a copy of another People magazine in the desk, which came out right after Byrds of Paradise had been cancelled, on June 13, 1994. It has Princess Di on the cover (When wasn't she on the cover? No disrespect meant.), wearing a Philadelphia Eagles jacket. It has an article on Arlo called "Aloha, Arlo!", and has a picture of him with the whole family, even the dogs, all piled up on and around a couch on the porch together. Of course, the opening photo is a picture of him playing the ukelele, surrounded by 4 Hawaiian beauties doing the hula.....

I still remember that image with great fondness.

I'd like to see that copy - well, read it!! I contacted People Magazine to check the archives and they said there's no such People mag with that date ... guess you meant the date (June 13, 1984) when the show was cacelled, right?? DUH! What's the date of that magazine, Judy?
