I just got an e-mail from Verizon wireless about new ringtones.
There is actually a folk category now with quite a few choices.
Unfrtunately a search for "Guthrie" brought up nothing.

But when I typed in City of New Orleans, Willie Nelson's copy came
up. Now that's not all bad, as I like Willie quite a bit.

I'd think about ordering that as I'd love to hear my phone playing it but I think I'll wait until I can actually have an "Alice" chorus play instead.
That's what I'm waiting for. If anyone knows how to do that already,
I'd love to hear about it. Otherwise, Arlo, can you talk to Verizon???

That's so funny - we just upgraded our cell phones and I mentioned the need for Arlo ringtones to him just yesterday. Most newer cell phones can actually use MP3 files as ringtones - if not most likely MIDI. And I have software that will serve the files via WAP, if you have Internet access on your phone.

BTW, I've got the new Motorolla V3 (Razor) phone which can't access normal web pages (without a browser installed) - but it can access WAP sites. If you do try the link on your phone, let me know how it works for you and what phone you have.

I connected to that link, and it seems I can only get the MIDI files, not the MP3s...
I use Sprint, and the phone is a Samsung VI660.

Yep, that phone is MIDI only for ringtones... to check and see what your phone can use (if you don't know, and can't find it in the manual) here's a handy site (free stuff too):

It should tell you what types of files it can use for ringtones.

I have a Motorola V220 & I can't get mp3's to work on it but midi files work fine on there. I went searching online & found a midi of Alices & downloaded it to the puter then used Motorola Mobile Phone Tools to transfer it to the phone. Now I have an Arlo ringtone. I made up my own ringtone of Alices but it sucks lol...

WOW!!! You guys are great (and smart)!! I don't think I have a clue how to get either a wallpaper or an Arlo ring tone for my cell!! That would be great!! I never even gave it a thought but it would be GREAT to have both on my cell!! (instead of the stupid options that gave me!!) I have a Motorola with cellular one.

This topic is very timely for me because Lance and I are considering making the official switch from AT&T to Cingular. In order to do that, we have to buy a new GSM phone. No surprises there, although we do like our digital phones.

We are having a hard time deciding about which phones to buy. My kids told me they don't know anyone who's happy with Motorola, but here I'm reading the exact opposite. I know that several years ago, Corey had to create her own ringtones because her Motorola couldn't download them in any format.

There are several Samsungs I like, plus one of the Motorolas. Lance likes one of the Sony Eriksons.... what do YOU like best about your phone... and what do you dislike a lot? Do you have a camera-phone?

I'd like to have a new phone in my hands by next Wednesday before we leave for The Church. Sue... I remember you saying you did have service bars in The Church (on Cingular???) but no one else had any bars at all. Was that right? What phone? Are you with the new Cingular or just showing Cingular instead of AT&T when the phone boots up?

I've got Cingular...outside the church it was showing four bars, inside the church, maybe one. My phone is a Samsung with a camera. I've been happy with it; I've generally got pretty good coverage (it has never been an issue) and I don't give a flip about ringtones...whatever the phone came with is fine with me. There's several choices.
It fits in a jeans pocket, and has all the regular features phones come with, most of which I don't use. I use it mostly for communicating with family/friends and emergency use when I'm not home. It holds a charge for three or four days. I'm on a plan that gives me 1000 minutes a month for $44, and all the unused minutes roll over to the next month if they're not used. I've got about 9000 minutes banked.

It's a Samsung SGH-p107. Cingular is also on the front of the phone.
The bill says Cingular...I've never had ATT pop up anywhere, and the voice mail is Cingular.

I had ATT/Suncom but they got bought by Cingular so I'm on Singular now. It's nice having a camera phone now but the pics qualityisn't so good tho...
