Gotta make a positive contribution, fellow Blunderers and Blunderettes. Money, time, prayers, or all three. Thank you.

Arlo's abscence on this subject is puzzling! Come on Arlo, we are waiting for your words of wisdom.

I suspect Arlos been busy due to being on tour & no time to post. But knowing him he's been keeping the Hurricane folks in his prayers. I know I have...

I'm pretty sure no one here needs to hear from me to know what needs to be done. I've noted on more than a few occasions that there's times when we can't wait to hear from leaders or people who are supposed to know something, before we act ourselves. But, since you've asked: We've send the Red Cross more loot then we've ever sent them before. We've also let appropriate authorities know that our doors are open to folks. More importantly, we're trying to find housing for displaced musicians and their families for what may be a long time wait to rebuild that great city. There's a lot going on - too much to tell in detail. We'll know in about a week whether or not some of our plans come to fruition - meantime I urge everyone to send what they can.

In other words - Don't wait to hear from anyone. There's been too much waiting already.

When you donate, remember to check with your HR dept. Mark's company is matching dollar for dollar and mine is 2 for 1. Makes those donations stretch a little farther...

I don't have "a lot" of money to donate, but I figure every dollar counts, right? I do have a lot of household things to donate once they get the trucks rolling down there... Coatesville, PA already sent a truckloand down last night... but I wasn't nearby to donate goods...

I also want to offer Eric's room to some needy single mom and child... and Eric's ok with that (as long as I remember that right now, he, too, is homeless in Indiana, PA)... but Lance has a LOT of misgivings about letting a stranger into our house... because of a bad past experience. So I'll do what I can... but in my heart it's never enough.

 I didn't mean I was waiting to do something myself until I heard what Arlo had to say. I and a friend have already begun a fundraiser where we work (Broward County Mass Transit) and of course encourage everyone here to do something too. We have around 1000 employees and over the next few days we are attempting to personally contact each of them, literally begging for even the smallest donation (every penny will help), which we will then pass along to the Red Cross. I guess my respect and admiration for Arlo as an artist, humanitarian, and all around great guy bring me here like a magnet to look for his words of encouragement which are always a comfort to us all. Thsi is especailly true now, when our government's administration has failed to act with the urgency that this disaster deserves.

I think I knew what you meant too. :) I, like everyone else, was just wondering what was taking those in charge so long to do something. Especially upsetting to me was those folks at the convention center who had had nothing to eat or drink for days, as they walked by supplies in plain view that were locked behind steel fences, just needing someone to open the gates. Just today the City of New Orleans was hauling food and water to New Orleans, and taking people from the disaster further up the line to safety - I'm working on the song version... :)

I feel so sorry for those poor people and I also cannot understand why it takes so long for help to arrive. Don't large cities have like plans for catastrophies. What makes me very angry is the right to shoot at people who are going in stores to get stuff out. Imagine no water, no food, no nothing and kids and babys to feed and so on. And then a store where you can get the stuff. Since there is nobody to give it to you whatelse can you do but go and get it. So what if there are a view that will take advantage and steel stuff like videos or tvs, that doesn't make up for all those who try to survive. Nobody should have the right to shoot at them. :( I pray that everybody gets help soon, can't do very much over here but donate a little money.
Brigitte

I, like everyone, am so saddened and ANGRY :x at the relief effort (or should I say 'attempt', not effort!) provided by this country. I feel helpless ... all I can give is some money and some prayers. I was watching CNN last evening and I COULD NOT believe what I heard Aaron Brown ask a congresswoman. He was aking if race or class was the reason that it has taken this long to get the ball rolling. I never even gave THAT a thought  . People are actually concerned about race/class when our fellow citizens, human beings like each of us are in desperate need of survival!! I am angry! Thanks a lot, George!

Cyndy, I feel the same away about this becoming an issue of race. Today on MSNBC, Jesse Jackson was interviewed and stated that, of course it's about race! And he thought the term "refugee" was a racist word, too.
