has anyone used the new tix purchasing thingy for the spring revivals yet?call me abit back dated, but i don't care for it too much. i found it much more convenient going through the church via phone or in person to get tixs.

I used it and bought my tix for the May 19th show (me doing a Snoopy dance) I'm psyched! I find the electronic tix very awesomely convienent and you can print tix from your puter for free and don't have to worry about paying stanky postage and/or shipping charges EWWW!!!
IMO one disadvantage about buying tix via phone is that you have to give out a credit card number and I personally do not feel comfortable giving out my personal info due to identity theft and all other kinds of cockadoodle doo doo scams in this world

truthfully, the online ticketing worked efficiently today (as compared to the first day it was posted, today it immediately offered all three shows) and made it relatively easy to part me and my money. My complaint is that this method takes more money, in the form of 'convenience' fees, especially in the case where I'VE MADE IT MORE CONVENIENT FOR THEM (etix) by printing the tickets myself. NO HUMAN (well, except if you count me) had to have any interaction in this transaction. So what 'convenience' fee is reasonable in this case?
Now I have to assume that it always cost SOMETHING to take our info over the phone at the church, and process the credit card thingies, and then type names into the 'puter (or write them onto lined paper with an official rbr pencil) but I can't really imagine that it cost the GC $7.10 per seat!! So the GC gets out of the ticketing business, and we end up paying more to afford them the convenience?
I hope I'm not out of line here, but does the GC get any portion of the fee, in addition to the ticket price? Or does etix take the entire fee? Always drives me nuts when I see the 'fees' tacked onto a show at Madison Square Garden (20,000+ seats!) At least there, as with other local venues, you can go to the boxoffice and skip SOME of the fees.
Now I'm not really upset for myself, but I KNOW there are others here who find themselves having to weigh the extra cost vs. their desires. Shouldn't there still be a direct purchase method that would keep the price down to the 'original'? Maybe with only a minimal service charge, to cover the actual cost of someone handling the sale.


Sorry to rant so much on this, but ticket charges are truly one of the modern day's most despised developments, and one of my pet peeves... or couldn't you tell??

Oh, the 'good' news, is that the tickets are easily transferrable, by sending the 'reprint ticket' link to someone else.... so passing the tickets on when you can't make it to a show (somehow a common occurrence in my life) is at least made a little easier.

I'm with Arnie, I much prefer the old system. Calling the Guthrie Center is always a pleasant experience and I'm much more comfortable giving my credit card info to someone I know. My dislikes with etix, no prior notification for GC members and the high fees.
Trying to get tickets or information Friday was a disaster. I could only bring up the 5/19 gig on etix and called both the Guthrie Center and Rising Son Records but they didn't have the information yet either. Communication could be better.
Monday things went smoother although I couldn't buy tix for Sat. and Sun. on the same transactionand had to go through the process twice.
That said I'm happy to have tickets and am looking forward to the gigs and HD Walk.

With only one person actually employed at the GC, and no one else generally there, the director ends up answering the phones to sell tickets to all the events. He also has to do the business of booking the shows for the summer Troubadour Series and a jillion other things. We've put off sending George to India for the time being, and arranged to have ticket sales through etix, which applied the least service charges of the companies offering similar services. The service charges added to the ticket price is still less than what non-members pay for the event. If we could find someone willing to answer the phones 24/7 for 3 months for the two grand it cost to use the service, we'd have done that. So far, no takers.

It's different for sure, and not as friendly and we'd rather do it some other way. Maybe once the GC is running in the black and we have the funds to hire more staff we'll get back to business as usual. Until then, we're trying the best way we can to let our friends and families all over the world know what's going on, with time to make plans for a visit. As you know, with the funds we raise and with the immense help we get from volunteers, we keep rolling.

Our memberships are not expensive, and are intended to make it possible for people everywhere to feel as though their contributions help. Eventually, we will create a web based membership system, where you can create your own unique passwords etc., and you will get prior notification for all events through email. In other words, it's a work in progress, so bear with us as we pull the GC into the future.

Yup I'd be more than happy to only have to pay an extra 7 bucks fee to be there instead of an extra $1,500 ( that's oz money and one oz dollar is only worth about 75 cents US at the moment).
Heyyyyyyy... maybe George could go on his trip to India after all and I could get the 2 grand (to help pay for my airfare) by answering the phones at the Church for 3 months. (Do I get free tickets to the Church shows, is there still a bed in the Bell Tower and will someone feed me???)

i would like still to see some notice via snail mail if possible. there are those of us who are still abit computer illiterate and do not get on the comp very often to check up on things. some of us would hate to miss out on the great things that occur down at the Church. so something received on a post card with advanced notice would be GREATLY appreciated, please and thank you. peace
